ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENTADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
March 27, 2019 City of Kitchener
A meeting of the Economic Development Advisory Committee was held at 11:05am this date,
chaired by M. Bingeman, and vice-chaired by B. Whittaker, with all members present, except
A. Zammit, D. Billedeau, J. Classon-Romero, and S. Madill.

Information Items
1. Annual Agenda Overview and Updates: M. Bingeman, Chair EDAC
M. Bingeman reviewed the draft 2019 agenda for the remaining EDAC meetings. It was also
announce to the Committee that committee member J. Auger is departing EDAC and this will
be their last meeting. Other updates were discussed including a brief recap of the discussion
surrounding the members different sectors from the February meeting for the members who
were unable to attend.
ACTION: M. Bingeman to send out draft 2019 agenda.
2. Minutes and Calendar Update: V. Boyle, Economic Development Assistant
V. Boyle announced that an updated calendar invite for future EDAC meetings would be sent
out to committee members. V. Boyle also explained that the format of the minutes of the
meetings would be taking on the new parliamentary style without note or comment.
3. CRoZBy Presentation: B. Sloan, Manager Long Range & Policy Plan
B. Sloan provided the committee with a high level overview of the Comprehensive Review of
the Zoning by-law plan which is going to council in April. They overviewed the process that
was taken for public consultation including the involvement of EDAC in 2016, and discussed
some of the implications of the plan surrounding parking requirements and impact on industrial
and commercial lands.

4. City of Kitchener Innovation Lab: K. Allen-Muncey, Innovation Lab Director
K. Allen-Muncey gave a brief overview of the City of Kitchener Innovation lab and its focus
around innovation, inclusion, and connectedness. K. Allen-Muncey discussed the importance
of figuring out what the problem is before implementing a solution as well as some of the
projects that the lab has taken on including the connected mesh network of the LED
streetlights throughout Kitchener. K. Allen-Muncey also gave a brief overview of the process
for the Smart Cities Competition which Waterloo Region is involved in.
The meeting was adjourned at 12:59pm.
