2.DOPWR 95-14 - Bicycle Race - Hidden Valley Road
The Committee was advised that Ziggy's Cycling Club Inc. have requested permission to hold a bicycle
race on Hidden Valley Road and Hidden Valley Crescent on Sunday, June 11, 1995. It was noted
that this is approximately the 7th year for this annual event.
The
Committee was advised that the Cycle Club has petitioned the local residents with 4 negative
responses received. These residents have been contacted by staff and the main concern seems to
be the amount of practising which takes place in this area; the high rate of speed; and, the apparent
disregard for regular traffic.
When questioned by Councillor K. Redman, it was noted that the 4 people opposing this years race have
opposed the races in the past and their concerns are the same.
In regard to the apparent disregard for regular traffic, Councillor M. Wagner suggested that these
concerns should be passed on to the Twin City Cycling Committee so that they can be addressed
and forwarded to the various Cycle Clubs. The Committee agreed that this would be an appropriate
course of action.
Following further discussion and on motion by Councillor J. Ziegler -
it was resolved:
"That the City of Kitchener approve the bicycle race on Hidden Valley Road and Hidden Valley Crescent
on Sunday, June 11, 1995."
