Bikeshare Update (5 min) COMMITTEE ADMINISTRATORS  Darren Kropf  Liz Christensen Kitchener Cycling and Trails Advisory Committee May 14, 2019 1. Workplan Development From: City of Kitchener staff Overview Staff will provide a summary of the brainstorming session completed at last month’s committee meeting, in order to develop a workplan for the term of the committee. Expectations of Committee Committee members are asked to consider what tasks or themes they would like to work on and assist in preparing some goals and objectives to completing those tasks. 2. Separated Pilot From: Faranak Hosseini, city staff Overview Staff will present the design of the separated cycling facilities along Belmont Avenue and Queen’s Boulevard. Expectations of Committee Committee members are encouraged to ask questions and provide comments or suggestions on the proposed design. 3. Forming a Subcommittee for Bike Lane Pilot Opening From: Matt Rodrigues, KCTAC Chair Overview In an effort to promote and celebrate the opening of the new Queen and Belmont Bike Lane Pilot, a subcommittee (of no more than 4 people) should be formed to brainstorm and plan for a launch event. The event would aim to include: community members, area residents, local politicians, local media, and cycling advocates - amongst others. The subcommittee would work with the City's Pilot Project team to determine the appropriate time for the event given anticipated construction period and other timing considerations. This subcommittee could also work on similar projects for future new infrastructure openings (i.e., Young & Duke Streets). The subcommittee would report back to the committee with a finalized plan for the event. Kitchener Cycling and Trails Advisory Committee May 14, 2019 Expectations of Committee All those interested in participating in this subcommittee should express their interest. The subcommittee members would meet outside of the monthly KCTAC meetings at a time/date to be determined by the subcommittee, and must not meet or exceed the committee's quorum. 4. Bike-to-Work Day and Bike Month From: Matthew Rodriques, KCTAC Chair Overview Bike-to-Work Day will be celebrated on May 27, 2019 and marks the beginning of Bike Month in June. Expectations of Committee Committee members are asked to consider and discuss what types of events or promotions could be planned to celebrate Bike-to-Work Day or others during Bike Month. 5. Ontario Bike Summit recap From: Darren Kropf, Liz Christensen, Matthew Rodriques, Emily Slofstra Overview The Ontario Bike Summit was held on April 3, in Toronto. Approximately 250 people attended from across Ontario. Two city staff and two KCTAC members attended and will provide a presentation on what they learned. Expectations of Committee Committee members are encouraged to ask questions following the presentations. Kitchener Cycling and Trails Advisory Committee May 14, 2019 6. Cycling and Trails Master Plan update From: Liz Christensen, city staff Overview Progress is being made on The Cycling and Trails Master Plan, including several meetings with the Community Working Group. City staff will provide an update on key milestones reached thus far and upcoming engagement opportunities. Expectations of Committee Committee members are encouraged to ask questions and consider ways they want to be involved in the engagement phase of the master plan. 7. Courtland Avenue trail construction update From: Liz Christensen, city staff Overview Construction has begun on a new multi-use trail on Courtland Avenue, between Mill St and Hayward Avenue. Staff will provide some project information and an update on construction progress. Expectations of Committee Information item. 8. Bikeshare update From: Darren Kropf, city staff Overview A Waterloo Region wide bike shared has launched, following a launch event on May 10. Stations are located throughout Waterloo, Kitchener and Cambridge, with an initial launch of 200 bikes by Drop Mobility. Up to 500 bikes could be deployed as usage and travel patterns are better understood and more stations are added. Expectations of Committee Committee members are encouraged to try using the bikeshare and bring suggestions for promoting its use.
