DOWNTOWN ACTION & ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
April 25, 2019 City of Kitchener
The Downtown Action & Advisory Committee met this date, commencing at 4:00 p.m.
Present: Erin Atchison, Geoffrey Guin, Jeannette Makad, Martin Timmerman, Sandra
Castle, Scott Thomson, Tricia Smith, William Turman
Guests: Karen Cooper, Manager, Strategic and Business Planning
Emily Robson, Coordinator Arts & Creative Industry
Staff: Hilary Abel, Mistie Brown, Marzena Rachwal
Information Items: H. Abel
Ms. Abel updates the committee on the Queen Street project. She mentions that due to tender delays
and high bid, the construction was postponed to spring 2020.
Information Items:
1) Make It Kitchener Facilitated Discussion 2:
Continued Facilitated Discussion from March 28, 2019 DAAC meeting. Ms. E. Robson introduces
and discusses the Sustainable Development Goals on the United Nations website. She asks the
committee to share the goals that resonate with them and how the global challenges relate to the
City of Kitchener current projects and needs. Areas of focus the committee felt are important; No
Poverty, Responsible Production and Consumption, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure,
Quality Education, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Decent Work and Economic Growth,
Reduced Inequalities, Affordable and Clean Energy, Good Health and Well-Being.

2) City of Kitchener Draft Strategic Plan Goals and Actions for Review & Comments:
Ms. K. Cooper reviews the report to the committee. Committee provides feedback on the
importance of biking and bike routes, security and bike theft. Ms. K. Cooper asks committee to fill
in the survey for the 2019-2020 Strategic Plan.

3) Gaukel Greenway Community Proposal & Discussion
Moved to May 23, 2019.
