ARTS AND CULTURE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (ACAC) MINUTES
APRIL 16, 2019 CITY OF KITCHENER
The Arts and Culture Advisory Committee met on April 16, 2019, commencing at 4:00 p.m.
PRESENT: All members present, except L. Workman, L. Zesner, S. Madill and D. Schnider.
STAFF: K. Varin, Program Assistant, Arts & Creative Industries

DISCUSSION ITEMS
2. Building a definition of Arts & Culture
Mr. M. Morales facilitated a group discussion to form a definition of arts and culture
respectively, through a process called design thinking. This definition will serve as a
guiding principle for the committee’s vision statement. The statements provided during this
meeting, will be further abridged at an upcoming meeting to create concise definitions.
ACTION: Mr. M. Morales advised that he would continue to facilitate this discussion at the
upcoming Arts and Culture meeting.
INFORMATION ITEMS
3. City updates: K. Varin, Program Assistant, Arts & Creative Industries
Ms. K. Varin updated members on the public art call for entries that staff is currently
preparing. She also updated on the programming status of the space formerly occupied by
Open Sesame and public art maintenance presently underway.
4. Downtown Action and Advisory Committee Update: M. Morales
Mr. M. Morales informed members that staff presented an overview of the Comprehensive
Review of the Zoning by-law plan (CROZBY) available on the city’s website. Staff also
outlined the purpose and the goals of the Downtown Kitchener Neighborhood Association.
5. Economic Development Advisory Committee Update: S. Madill & M. Blunt
Neither S. Madill nor M. Blunt were able to attend the meeting.
6. Public Art Working Group: K. Varin in lieu of S. Juhn
The meeting was cancelled.
7. Council Report: D. Schnider
Councillor D. Schnider was not present to give an update.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:35 p.m.
