SUBJECT:Pedestrian Connection between Fairway Road and Traynor Avenue

RECOMMENDATIONS:
That the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign any agreements satisfactory to the City Solicitor
which are necessary in order to implement the resolution of September 10, 2018 to move forward
with the acquisition of lands required to construct a walkway connection from Fairway Road
South to the LRT corridor and to construct a walkway connection from Traynor Avenue to the
LRT corridor.
BACKGROUND:
In September2018, Council approved report DSD-18-124Pedestrian Connection between Fairway
Road and Traynor Avenue.Inthat report, staff were directed to investigateand pursue the acquisition
of lands required toconstruct a walkway connection from Traynor Avenue throughthe LRT corridorto
Fairway Road.
REPORT:
Staff have confirmedthat awalkway should be constructed along the westerlyproperty limit of both 259
Traynor Avenueand 642 Fairway Road South. Accordingly, staff have been in contact with the affected
property owners to negotiate terms. In order for staff to meet the conditions outlined in report DSD-18-
124, it is necessary that the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign any agreements satisfactory to the
City Solicitor.
City of Kitchener and Region of Waterloo Staff continue to work towards a 2019 completion date for the
installation of this crossing.

Strategy:4.4-Develop a network of safe, comfortable and linked pedestrian
and cycling facilities and improve year-round maintenance on
priority routes.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Costs associated with the acquisition of land will be taken from the land inventory reserve fund as
previously approved through the report DSD-18-124.
