SPECIAL COUNCIL MINUTES
CITY OF KITCHENER
A special meeting of Council was held at 11:50 a.m. this date, and Chaired by Mayor R. Christy, with all
members present.
Notice of this special meeting had previously been given to all members of Council by the City Clerk
pursuant to Chapter 25 (Council Procedure) of the Municipal Code.
Council was in receipt of a report from L. Gordon, Manager of Purchasing, dated March 7, 1997 listing the
potential bidders in the pre-qualification process for the construction of the Country Hills Community
Centre on Rittenhouse Drive. Councillor J. Ziegler asked that Council be provided with background on
the successful bidder when asked to consider awarding the tender.
Moved by Councillor T. Galloway
Seconded by Councillor J. Ziegler
"That Council accept the list of potential bidders in the pre-qualification process for the
construction of the Country Hills Community Centre on Rittenhouse Drive as outlined in a
memorandum from L. Gordon, Manager of Purchasing, dated March 7, 1997, and further,
That pursuant to Chapter 170 (Purchasing) of the Municipal Code, Council has no objection to the
process continuing, and endorses the shortlist of potential bidders outlined in Mr. Gordon's
memorandum."

Seconded by Councillor T. Galloway
"That the Women's World Hockey Championships to be held in Kitchener, March 31-April 6, 1997,
be declared an event of municipal significance, and further,
That Council has no objection to the sale of alcohol at the Kiwanis Arena in conjunction with this
event."
Carried.
Mr. G. Sosnoski advised of two additional items for in-camera discussion this date; namely, a matter
subject to solicitor-client privilege relating to Ralgreen Crescent, and a personal matter relative to the
Director of Transit.
Moved by Councillor C. Weylie
Seconded by Councillor M. Yantzi
"That an in-camera meeting of City Council be held immediately following this special meeting to
consider two personal matters and four matters subject to solicitor-client privilege."
Carried.
Moved by Councillor Jake Smola
Seconded by Councillor T. Galloway
That leave be given the Mover and Seconder to introduce a by-law to confirm all actions and
proceedings of the Council, and that the same be taken as read a first, second and third times, be
finally passed and numbered 97-50 by the Clerk.
Carried.
On motion, the meeting adjourned at 12 noon.
