HomeMy WebLinkAboutCouncil Minutes - 1997-05-20 SCOUNCIL\1997-05-20-SPE MAY 20, 1997 SPECIAL COUNCIL MINUTES CITY OF KITCHENER A special meeting of Kitchener City Council was held at 4:10 p.m.this date and chaired by Mayor R. Christy with all members of Council present. Notice of this special meeting had previously been given to all members of Council by the City Clerk pursuant to Chapter 25 (Council Procedure) of the Municipal Code. Council was in receipt of a report and recommendation from J. Koppeser dated May 15, 1997 concerning an upcoming Greek Community Festival. Moved by Councillor B. Vrbanovic Seconded by Councillor M. Yantzi "That the Greek Community Festival and all activities connected therewith, to be held at 527 Bridgeport Road East, Kitchener, on June 6-8, 1997 (inclusive), be considered a 'Community Festival' within Kitchener; and further, That the City of Kitchener has no objection to the Greek Orthodox Community obtaining a liquor licence for the Greek Festival on June 6-8, 1997 (inclusive)." Carried. Moved by Councillor M. Wagner Seconded by Councillor K. Redman "That an in-camera meeting of City Council be held immediately following this special meeting to consider a solicitor-client/personal matter." Carried. By general agreement, Council considered an additional item for discussion introduced by Councillor J. Ziegler and pertaining to an upcoming Midway at the former Bestpipe site on Strasburg Road. Councillor Ziegler asked staff to enquire as to whether the operator has obtained the necessary approval, and if application has not been made, determine whether the Midway could be located closer to Alpine Road. He also asked for clarification of the percentage of revenue from the Midway which would accrue to the sponsoring charity. Moved by Councillor C. Weylie Seconded by Councillor John Smola "That leave be given the Mover and Seconder to introduce a by-law to confirm all actions and proceedings of the Council and that the same be taken as read a first, second and third times, be finally passed and numbered 97-84 by the Clerk." Carried. On motion, the meeting adjourned at 4:20 p.m. MAYOR CLERK
