1. Wayfinding
From: Niall Lobley, Director of Parks and Cemeteries
Overview
The City of Kitchener’s Parks & Cemeteries Division, within Infrastructure Services,
looks after greenspaces, trails and parks year round. This includes supporting grass
cutting on some sidewalks, snow clearing and looking after multi-use trails across the
City and along City and Regional roads. This diverse network is growing and
increasingly is seen as an important corridor for transportation for recreation and daily
use reasons. As the City grows and as new people move in, as our community
diversifies and changes, and we recognize and develop services that are better suited
to all members of our community, the time is right to review and consider how we sign
and identify these important areas. In order to start the process, a new set of sign and
wayfinding elements supporting a consistent corporate brand is has been developed.
Expectations of Committee
The committee is asked to provide feedback on the proposed sign and wayfinding
elements.
2. Complete Streets
From: Darren Kropf, Active Transportation
Overview
The city is taking a Complete Streets approach to street design. Identified as one of five
strategic items under People-Friendly Transportation, the development of Complete
Streets guidelines will assist in creating safe, comfortable and convenient streets for all.
In the fall of 2018, KCTAC provided comments during the initial round of public
engagement. City staff will report back on what was heard and share the key elements
of the Complete Streets guidelines.
Expectations of Committee
The committee is asked to read the Complete Streets Guidelines (and/or the shorter
Community Edition) in advance of this meeting and provide questions or comments for
improvement.
The guidelines can be found at https://www.engagewr.ca/complete-streets in the
Document Library section.
The committee will be asked to consider a motion in support of the guidelines before
they are presented to City Council in October.

3. Boulevard multi-use trail standards
From: Darren Kropf, Active Transportation
Overview
Currently each municipality in Waterloo Region follows their own standards or different
industry guidance for pavement markings and signage of boulevard multi-use trails.
Many multi-use trails are unmarked. In November 2018, KCTAC was asked for input on
their favourite trail experiences and best practices for trail standards.
Staff from all municipalities met to discuss an agreed upon standard that will be used
moving forward. The committee is asked to review these standards in advance of the
meeting.
Expectations of Committee
Staff will present the proposed boulevard multi-use trail standards to the committee for
their comment. Committee members are also asked to share which boulevard multi-use
trails are the highest priority to apply these standards to.
4. Active transportation forum
From: Lisa Chominiec, Active Transportation
Overview
The Intermunicipal Partnership for Active Transportation (IMPAcT) consists of
representatives from the municipalities and region, Public Health, universities and
colleges, school transportation services, police, ministry of transportation (province),
Canadian Automobile Association, Sustainable Waterloo Region, and Explore Waterloo
Region (tourism).
IMPAcT is hosting another Active Transportation forum on Wednesday September 25
8:30am-1:30pm.
The purpose of the forum is bring together different audiences that are involved in active
transportation through roundtable discussions, with the goal to get stakeholder feedback
on potential IMPAcT campaigns and initiatives.
The key themes will include:
How to better engage with New Canadians
How to support students and the guardians of students in Grade 7 and 8 in
walking or biking to school
How to foster buy-in from people who oppose active transportation projects
All KCTAC members are invited to attend.
Kitchener Cycling and Trails Advisory Committee
Expectations of Committee
Committee members are asked to indicate if they are attending the event and suggest
key stakeholders to invite.
5. Subcommittee updates
Overview
The three subcommittees, education, advocacy and separated bike lane opening event,
are encouraged to meet and report on progress.
Expectations of Committee
Subcommittee members are asked to provide an update on their plans.
