HomeMy WebLinkAboutCouncil Minutes - 1997-12-08 SCOUNCIL\1997-12-08-SPE DECEMBER 8, 1997 SPECIAL COUNCIL MINUTES CITY OF KITCHENER A special meeting of City Council was held at 12:25 p.m. this date and Chaired by Mayor C. Zehr, with all members present. Notice of this special meeting had previously been given to all members of Council by the City Clerk pursuant to Chapter 25 (Council Procedure) of the Municipal Code. Moved by Councillor B. Vrbanovic Seconded by Councillor M. Yantzi "That an in-camera meeting of City Council be held immediately following this special meeting to consider two personal matters, two labour relations matters and five matters subject to solicitor- client privilege." Carried. Moved by Councillor M. Yantzi Seconded by Councillor K. Taylor-Harrison "WHEREAS a needs assessment undertaken by the Steering Committee for the proposed Kitchener Downtown Inter-Community Health Centre identified gaps and barriers in the provision of health care services in the Downtown, and a serious shortage of Doctors in this and other areas of the City; AND WHEREAS it has been found that seniors, youth, Iow-income families, new Canadians and the homeless are at risk groups in regard to health care services, with approximately 15,000 such individuals in the Downtown area; AND WHEREAS the Steering Committee found there is a Iow level of awareness of the health and social services available in the community and a need for emphasis on health promotion and illness prevention rather than illness treatment; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Kitchener City Council supports, in principle, the preparation of a proposal by the Steering Committee requesting core funding from the Ministry of Health for a Kitchener Downtown Inter-Community Health Centre." Carried Unanimously. Moved by Councillor John Smola Seconded by Councillor J. Haalboom "That leave be given the Mover and Seconder to introduce a by-law to confirm all actions and proceedings of the Council and that the same be taken as read a first, second and third times, be finally passed and numbered 97-182 by the Clerk." Carried. On motion the meeting adjourned at 12:30 p.m. MAYOR CLERK
