HomeMy WebLinkAboutCommunity Svcs - 1994-10-31CSC\1994-10-31 OCTOBER 31, 1994 COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMITTEE MINUTES CITY OF KITCHENER The Community Services Committee met this date, under the Chairmanship of Councillor G. Lorentz, commencing at 1:05 p.m., with all members present except Councillors G. Leadston, C. Zehr & J. Ziegler. Others Present: Messrs. T. Clancy, K. Baulk, T. McKay, R. Arnot, T. McCabe, Ms. C. Oliver and Ms. D. Gilchrist 1. ONTARIO TRACK AND FIELD ASSOCIATION The Committee was in receipt of a report from Mr. K. Baulk, Manager, Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex and Kitchener Farmers Market, dated October 13, 1994, in support of a request from the Ontario Track and Field Association for the City to facilitate an opening reception for volunteers and officials for each of the two Provincial Championships to be held in Kitchener during 1995. Mr. R. McQuaig of the K-W Track and Field Association was in attendance to support the grant request. The question was raised as to whether the total grant would be $1,000.00 divided between the receptions or $1,000.00 per reception. Staff advised that the total grant requested is $2,000.00. On motion by Mayor D. Cardillo it was resolved: "That $2,000.00 be allocated in the City's 1995 operating budget to facilitate an opening reception for the volunteers and officials for each of the two Provincial Championships hosted by the Ontario Track and Field Association on the weekends of July 21 - 23, 1995 (Junior, Midget, Bantam) and August 4 - 6, 1995 (Juvenile, Senior)." 2. CENTRAL ONTARIO EXHIBITION - 1995 AGREEMENT The Committee was in receipt of report of Mr. K. Baulk, Manager, Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex and Kitchener Farmers Market, dated October 13, 1994, recommending the renewal of the City's contract with the Central Ontario Exhibition as agreed to by City Council on October 12, 1993. On motion by Councillor J. Smola it was resolved: "That we exercise our option to renew our contract with the Central Ontario Exhibition, in conjunction with Conklins Worlds Finest Shows, for the presentation of the 1995 K-W Country Fest; and further, That the C.O.E. choose one of the two rental options for 1995, with the City to subsidize the use of the premises as per the five year rental scale as approved by Council on October 12, 1993." 3. SEAT NAME DEDICATION PROGRAM The Committee was in receipt of a report from Mr. K. Baulk dated October 20, 1994, recommending a seat name dedication program for the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex. Councillor T. Galloway declared a conflict of interest with this item as he is employed by the Kitchener Rangers and did not participate in any discussion or voting with respect to this matter. Mr. K. Baulk advised that the program is to start at the beginning of December. When questioned by the Committee, he advised that 850-1000 of the best of the old seats are to go into the Kinsmen arena to replace some bench seating. On motion by Councillor C. Weylie it was resolved: "That the City of Kitchener and Kitchener Ranger Hockey Club initiate a seat name plate dedication programme at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex in conjunction with the installation of the new seats in Dom Cardillo Arena, and OCTOBER 17, 1994 COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMITTEE MINUTES - 78 - CITY OF KITCHENER That for a $100.00 tax-deductible donation per seat, the donors name, or company name will appear on a permanently-riveted name plate mounted on the face of the seat back which will be maintained there for the life span of the seats, and That all donations received be held in the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex Capital Reserve account administered by the City of Kitchener Finance Department, with the intent of providing new capital enhancements for the complex; and further That the fund be managed by a Committee comprised of the Chairman of the Community Services Committee, the President of the Kitchener Ranger Hockey Club, the Assistant General Manager of the Parks and Recreation Department and the Manager of the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex/Kitchener Farmers Market, with the Committee to recommend projects from the fund to be approved through the regular capital budget process, as donations become available." NEXT MEETING The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Community Services Committee will take place on Monday November 21, 1994, in the Council Chambers, 2nd Floor, City Hall, commencing at 1:00 p.m..
