Welcome new members Overview Kyle Wagler and Geoff Kirk have been appointed to the committee, filling recently opened vacancies. Expectations of Committee Committee members are asked to introduce themselves and share their favourite place to bike or enjoy a trail. 2. Lancaster Street reconstruction From: Peter Linn, Senior Project Manager, Region of Waterloo Overview The Region of Waterloo is reconstructing Lancaster Street in 2021-2022. Along with replacing aging infrastructure, the project will provide new cycling facilities, add new sidewalks and construct new bus stop landings and pads. Expectations of Committee To receive input from Committee members regarding the preferred configuration of pedestrian and cycling facilities for the project. Please review the attachment in advance of the meeting. 3. All-advisory committees meeting Overview Compass Kitchener convened a meeting of all the city advisory committees on November 6, to help shape evaluation criteria for the 2019-2022 Strategic Plan, including the priority area most relevant to this committee, People-Friendly Transportation. Expectations of Committee Members who attended the meeting are asked to provide an update on what was discussed and ask the committee for input on the evaluation criteria and/or key points of conversation. Kitchener Cycling and Trails Advisory Committee 4. Dutch-inspired roundabout From: Barry Cronkite, Director, Transportation Services Overview In the 2019 budget process, funding was allocated to build a “Dutch-inspired” roundabout at Huron Road and Strasburg Road. Cyclists and community members have indicated that roundabouts are challenging to cycle through. A Dutch roundabout provides a protected outer ring adjacent to pedestrian crossings. It will be one of the first of its kind in Canada and will set the stage to determine if the design is feasible at other locations throughout Waterloo Region. Expectations of Committee Committee members are asked to provide their input on a proposed design. 5. Connecting Margaret Ave. Bike Lanes to New Contraflow Lane From: Matthew Rodrigues, committee chair Overview The new contraflow bike lanes on Young St will provide a new link into Downtown for those on a bike. The Margaret Ave bike lanes, which currently terminate on the north side of Victoria St. are a well travelled link that is now disconnected from the new route into Downtown Kitchener. Improving this linkage will encourage higher usage and ensure that users are aware of the new connection. Expectations Committee members are asked to discuss possible ways (e.g., wayfinding, infrastructure) to connect the Margaret Ave bike lanes to Maynard Ave. and over to the new Young St. contraflow bike lanes for staff's consideration. 6. Subcommittee updates Overview Subcommittees are encouraged to meet and report on progress. Expectations of Committee Subcommittee members are asked to provide an update on their plans.
