New year satisfaction survey From: Darren Kropf, city staff Overview At January’s meeting, a satisfaction survey was distributed to gather feedback from committee members on their experience so far. Staff will summarize responses and facilitate discussion on key points. Expectations of Committee Committee members are asked to send their responses to staff in advance of this meeting and be prepared to discuss further. 2. Name and mandate change of committee From: Aaron McCrimmon-Jones, city staff Overview At January’s meeting, city staff presented the opportunity to change the name and mandate of this committee. There was openness by committee members as well as some questions and concerns. Further discussion will determine whether to continue with a renewed mandate, and if so, what that mandate might look like. Expectations of Committee Committee members are asked to:  Review the committee’s current Terms of Reference, in advance of meeting  Research other cities’ Terms of Reference for similar committees, in advance of meeting  Be prepared to answer the following questions: 1. Do you support a change of the committee’s mandate? 2. If yes, what new opportunities would you like to see included in the committee’s mandate? 3. What concerns do you have if the mandate is changed?  Pass a motion in favour of exploring a renewed mandate or to keep the current mandate.  Consider volunteering to be part of a smaller subcommittee that drafts and proposes a new terms of reference for committee approval (if motion is passed in this direction) 3. Winter Bike Day From: Darren Kropf, city staff Kitchener Cycling and Trails Advisory Committee Overview A worldwide campaign, Winter Bike Day aims to demystify the practice of winter cycling and create awareness that ordinary people can ride their bicycles year round. If you can walk in the winter, you can ride a bike in the winter. Kitchener event details February 14, 2020, 7:30 am Meet at Arabella Park, 740 Belmont Ave W, Kitchener Join community members and city staff for a casual, 2 km bike ride on the new separated bike lanes on Belmont Avenue. Prizes for first-time winter cyclists, and best Valentine’s themed bike decorations or costume! Free hot chocolate and refreshments at the end of the ride at the Filsinger Trail. If you can’t make the bike ride, you can also drop by the Filsinger Trail at Belmont Avenue anytime between 7:30 and 9:00 a.m. for refreshments and to complete a brief survey on the separated bike lanes pilot on Belmont Avenue. Expectations of Committee Committee members are asked to help promote this event and help Kitchener reach the top of the leaderboard for Winter Bike to Work Day by registering your commitment to bike to work, school, or date night at winterbiketoworkday.org 4. Future cycling and trails events From: Darren Kropf, city staff Overview At the committee’s October 2019 meeting, the committee discussed the future of BikeFest and options for revamping it or replacing it. The committee seemed most interested in a move towards a series of cycling related events integrated with other community events, rather than a stand-alone BikeFest. If the committee wishes to proceed in this direction, some options for events that highlight recent infrastructure investments include:  June 13: Neighbours Day?  Late June/July: Iron Horse Trail celebration  August: ?  September: Belmont Village Bestival The city’s Bike Check service will also be present at the following events in 2020:  June 13: Neighbours Day at Stanley Park Community Centre  June 27-28: Multicultural Festival at Victoria Park  July 10-11: Kultrun World Music Festival at Victoria Park  July 17-19: Ribfest and Craft Beer Festival Kitchener Cycling and Trails Advisory Committee  Aug 6-9: Kitchener Blues Festival  Aug 16: Kidspark  Sept 19: Belmont Village Bestival Expectations of Committee Committee members are asked to provide a motion in support of replacing BikeFest, with a focus on several smaller events throughout the year. If the motion passes, committee members will break into groups to do brainstorming on each event, identifying potential target audiences, partners and activities. 5. Advisory Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs Meeting From: Darren Kropf, city staff Overview The Compass Kitchener Advisory Committee is hosting a gathering of all chairs and vice chairs of advisory committees on Wednesday March 4, 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. at City Hall rotunda. Discussion topics include:  Issues/projects on which there is potential interest in collaborative work  Review 9 Strategic Plan Action Statements staff anticipate being completed in 2020  Review Compass Kitchener Evaluation Criteria regarding the 9 Strategic Actions  Discuss opportunities for Advisory Committees to support work of implementing the 9 Strategic Actions Expectations of Committee A volunteer from the committee is welcomed, in the absence of the vice-chair who can’t attend due to a scheduling conflict.
