Committee recruitment From: Darren Kropf, city staff Overview Recruitment is now open for a new term of committee members. Current members are encouraged to apply again! Recent events have raised awareness of low representation of Black, Indigenous and people of colour in city engagement. Greater diversity and representation on this committee can lead to stronger input, more effective decision- making and generate new opportunities in increasing cycling and trail use. Expectations of Committee Committee members are asked for ideas for addressing barriers to applying to the committee, especially for Black, Indigenous and people of colour. 2. Project updates From: Darren Kropf, city staff Overview Several projects are underway in 2020, many in response to COVID-19. Staff will provide a status update. Expectations of Committee For information. 3. Front-Yard Garden Tours From: Matt Rodrigues, chair & Darren Kropf, city staff Overview The organizers of Front-Yard Garden Tours in Olde Berlin Town and Central Frederick neighbourhoods has invited the committee to set up a table to share various initiatives related to cycling and trails in Kitchener. Physical distancing will be maintained during this outdoor event. The event takes place on Saturday September 19, 2-4 pm. More information at https://oldeberlintown.ca/gardentour/. Expectations of Committee Volunteers from the committee are invited to help with setup, handing out information and clean up. Committee members are also encouraged to spread the word. Kitchener Cycling and Trails Advisory Committee 4. Fall engagement From: Darren Kropf, city staff Overview This committee brainstormed several events to host throughout 2020. Due to COVID- 19, those events have been cancelled. There may be other ways to engage the community in building a positive cycling culture, such as bike rides, bike light giveaways or small activations along trails or bike routes. Expectations of Committee Share ideas for positively engaging the community while still maintaining physical distance and avoiding large gatherings. 5. Construction protocols for active transportation From: Darren Kropf, city staff Overview Committee members requested information on how pedestrian and cyclist routes are maintained or accommodated during construction. Staff will explain industry standards and protocols that are currently followed. There is an opportunity to review these protocols during the city’s development of a Vision Zero strategy, so committee feedback is welcomed. Expectations of Committee For information and discussion. 6. Iron Horse Trail wayfinding From: Liz Christensen, city staff Overview Major components of Iron Horse Trail construction are coming to an end. City Staff will be hiring a consultant this fall to help them develop a wayfinding plan for popular destinations from the Iron Horse Trail. A wayfinding signage guideline has been created and we are planning to use this guideline to help create signs for the Iron Horse Trail. Expectations of Committee Brainstorm ideas of destinations to include on wayfinding signs. Kitchener Cycling and Trails Advisory Committee 7. Volunteer appreciation From: Darren Kropf, city staff Overview The committee’s term is nearing the end – thank you! Expectations of Committee Be thanked!
