Kitchener Cycling and Trails Advisory Committee
1. Project updates
From: Darren Kropf, Liz Christensen, city staff
Overview
Projects scheduled for 2020 continue to make progress, including work on the Dutch
Roundabout, Budd Park trail and more.
Expectations of Committee
For information.
2. Secure bike parking
From: Darren Kropf, city staff
Overview
The city opened two new secure bike parking facilities, in Duke & Ontario garage and
Kitchener Market garages. Several new vertical bike racks were installed in order to
maximize space.
Expectations of Committee
Committee members are asked to try the new bike racks and provide feedback on ease
of use, and whether instructions are needed. Those who do not have access to the bike
parking area can fill out the form and arrange a security pass in advance.
3. Cycling and Trails Master Plan
From: Liz Christensen, city staff
Overview
The Cycling and Trails Master Plan has been completed, following several rounds of
consultation with this committee and the community. Staff will provide a high-level
presentation on the final plan. It is scheduled to be presented to City Council on October
19.
Expectations of Committee
For information and general questions. The committee may decide to make a motion in
support of the master plan, in advance of its presentation to City Council. A delegation
to City Council from the committee may accompany the motion as well.

4. Downtown Cycling Grid Engagement
From: Darren Kropf, city staff
Overview
Following the input of over 4,000 residents through the city’s Strategic Plan and Cycling
and Trails Master Plan, the Downtown Cycling Grid includes the installation of a
continuous and protected cycling network that connects adjacent neighbourhoods to the
downtown. Just like the ION LRT significantly reshaped the downtown, this project will
transform how people move around by making it safe, comfortable and convenient for
people of all ages and abilities to bike.
A final round of consultation is scheduled to begin shortly, concluding in mid-November.
City staff will describe the engagement plan and key stakeholders included in this round
of consultation.
Expectations of Committee
Committee members are asked to share ideas for how they can engage the community
in this final round of consultation. An opportunity to comment on the actual design of the
grid will be provided to the committee in November.
5. Social gathering
From: Matthew Rodrigues, committee chair
Overview
Last meeting, committee members welcomed the opportunity to meet outside in a
physically-distanced gathering to celebrate the end of their term.
Expectations of Committee
Finalize date and plan to attend.
