2. Downtown Cycling Grid
From: Darren Kropf, city staff
Overview
Following the input of over 4,000 residents through the city’s Strategic Plan and Cycling
and Trails Master Plan, the Downtown Cycling Grid includes the installation of a
continuous and protected cycling network that connects adjacent neighbourhoods to the
downtown. Just like the ION LRT significantly reshaped the downtown, this project will
transform how people move around by making it safe, comfortable and convenient for
people of all ages and abilities to bike.
The design of the grid has reached 60% completion and is on track for a tender in early
2021.
Expectations of Committee
Committee members are asked to review detailed construction drawings found at
https://www.engagewr.ca/downtown-cycling-grid and provide questions or comments to
improve the design. The committee may choose to pass a motion in support of the
project and designate a member to be a delegation to City Council.
3. Travelwise
From: Miranda Burton, Natalie Wennyk, Sustainable Waterloo Region
Overview
TravelWise is a workplace program available to employers across Waterloo Region.
TravelWise aims to encourage employees to take transit, cycle, walk and carpool to
work instead of driving alone. Members have access to various services that make
sustainable transportation the easy choice in Waterloo Region. The TravelWise Team
will be introducing some key aspects of the program and then open up the floor for
questions and discussions. COVID-19 has had a profound impact on commuting in the
Kitchener Cycling and Trails Advisory Committee
Waterloo Region, and staff is looking to understand what next steps the program should
take to better serve the community.
Expectations of Committee
For discussion.
4. Iron Horse Trail Wayfinding
