Hussey gave Committee a brief review of the progress Oktobm~est Inc. is having with the "Passport to Success" initiative. Marketing Issues V. Gibaut in preparation for the 1995 Marketing Plan, reviewed promotional hterature from Cambridge, Waterloo and Guelph in an attempt to identify areas of promoting the City of Kitchener which may have been overlooked in previous years and that could be a consideration for the 1995 Marketing Pla~ Committee concluded that the quantity of material mailed out by the other cities was too costly and the amount of intbrmation forwarded to an inquiry unnecessary. Wayne Committee suggested to Economic Development Staff tailor the material sent to inquiries based on the nature of the inquiry. It was also pointed out that current intbrmation could be obtained from various groups ie K-W Homebuilders, cultural organizations (Oktobm~est) univm~ities, colleges, etc. to be used when answm4ug an inquiry. The contributing agency would then be responsible for insu~4ug that this intbrmation was updated regularly. Hussey left the meeting V. Gibaut suggested that a ch'aft 1995 Marketing Plan be reviewed in more detail at the next BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY ADVISORY COMMITTEE - MINUTES scheduled meeting. Christine Weylie entered the meeting 3. Lot 130, Huron Business Park Mr. John Whitney has advised the City of Kitchener that his initial plans for the development of this site are no longer a consideratio~ V. Gibaut is working with City Staff and consultants on developing this site and asked that this item be deferred to a future agend~ when a business plan will be designed for the proposal on Lot 130. 4. Home Based Business Councillor Weyhe who is Chairman of the Planning & Economic Development Committee addi'essed Committee today on the rezoning of all residential areas, specifically as it relates to Home Bustnes~ Committee reviewed the various categories as set out tn Section 5.13.1 of By-Law 85-1 and commented on each with respect to operating out of a single or semi-detached dwelling. After a lengthy discussion the following recommendation was made to Planning & Economic Development Committee: That the Business and Industry Advisory Committee at their meeting of August 11, 1994 recognizes the value of Home Base Business. However, it recommends to the Planning & Economic Development Committee that no action be taken to section 5.13 of By-Law 85-1 Consolidation incorporating New Residential and Exisitng Use Zones. Committee feels that passing of By-Law 85-1 Section 5.13 will create more problems than it will solve. Motion Carried Other Business a) ~VL Hiscott advised Councillor Weyhe that he will not be appea~qng before the Economic Development Division August 11, 1994. A memo from Tom McKay, CAO was circulated to Committee with their agenda regarding Site Plan Requirement~ V.
