JANUARY 13, 2021 CITY OF KITCHENER
The Compass Kitchener Advisory Committee met electronically this date, commencing at 4:00 p.m.
Present: Ms. E. Duhaime, Ms. L. Gazzola, Ms. L. Kochut, Ms. R. Lavender, Ms. J. Stephens -Wells,
Ms. L. Terry, Ms. L. Trumper, Ms. K. Williams and Messrs. J. Orbegoso, W. Rahimi, O. Samad and D.
Snider

1. WELCOME / INTRODUCTIONS
Ms. K. Cooper welcomed all members to the Committee, introduced herself and Ms. L. Korabo
as staff support, and then requested members introduce themselves and share some insight
into why they applied for Compass Kitchener and what they hoped to contribute to the
Committee's work and mandate. Following introductions, Ms. Cooper commented on the depth
of experience and knowledge within the membership and how these would benefit the
Committee's work plan.
2. COMMITTEE ORIENTATION
Ms. Cooper provided orientation information to Committee members on the following topics:
• Training for all advisory committee members as well as additional training for Chair/Vice
Chair roles — All training will be offered online on February 11, 2021. Links to join these
virtual sessions will be provided;
• 2021 / 2022 meeting schedule;
0 Committee role, collaboration and consensus model;
0 Staff roles;
• Terms of Reference — mandate;
• Annual work plans;
• All Committee meetings — objective;
0 Overview of Strategic Plan
o Community engagement
o Community priorities;
• Evaluation of Strategic Plan and regular reporting to City Council
o Committee responsibilities
o Evaluation criteria (timing, budget, impact and accountability);
• 2019-2022 Strategic Plan — includes integrated budgets to ensure work is supported; five
themes and 25 actions;
• 2023-2026 Strategic Plan — work will get underway soon; ability to consider new
vision/mission
3. SELECTION OF CHAIR AND VICE -CHAIR
Committee members had previously been provided with a document outlining the roles and
responsibilities for the positions of Chair and Vice -Chair.
Ms. K. Cooper called for nominations for the position of Chair. Ms. L. Trumper nominated Ms.
J. Stephens -Well who accepted the nomination. There were no other nominations for Chair.
Ms. Stephens -Wells was appointed by unanimous consent.
Ms. K. Cooper called for nominations for the position of Vice -Chair. Ms. L. Trumper nominated
Ms. E. Duhaime who accepted the nomination. There were no other nominations for Vice -Chair.
Ms. Duhaime was appointed by unanimous consent.
4. OTHER BUSINESS
In response to a request to provide an overview of the Strategic Plan evaluation work which will
begin at the Committee's February meeting, Ms. K. Cooper advised that she will be reviewing
the evaluation guide at the meeting and will respond to any clarifications members may have.
Some information has already been compiled but there is still some outstanding data to be
obtained from staff. Ms. Cooper felt that the Committee's first report to Council on the evaluation
of the Strategic Plan will likely occur in the March/April timeframe. She commented that reports
are generally presented by Committee members with the support of staff.
