Due to COVID-19 and recommendations by Waterloo Region Public Health to exercise physical
distancing, City Hall is closed to the public. Members of public are invited to view this meeting
electronically by contacting the Committee Administrator. While in-person delegation requests
are not feasible at this time, written comments may be submitted, and electronic participation
can be facilitated by contacting Darren Kropf at Darren.kropf@kitchener.ca. Delegates must
register by 4:00 p.m. on the business day prior to the meeting in order to participate
electronically. Written comments will be circulated prior to the meeting and will form part of
the public record.

1. Workplan development

Overview
At last meeting, committee members brainstormed several ideas to focus on during this
term. These items will form future agendas, presentations and tasks for subcommittees.
Based on that brainstorming, subcommittees could be formed on the following topics:
Events & promotions
Education & safety
Complete Streets implementation
Bike parking
Trail standards
Expectations of Committee
Committee members are asked if they are willing to lead a subcommittee and/or
participate on a subcommittee. A maximum of four members is allowed on each
committee. Then, using breakout rooms, each subcommittee will discuss their top,
actionable priorities. Subcommittee updates will form part of the agenda at all future
meetings.
2. New terms of reference

Overview
Ongoing conversations have explored possible changes to the committee’s Terms of
Reference.
Expectations of Committee
Following discussion, committee members will be asked to consider the following
motion: “That city staff be directed to draft a new Terms of Reference that broadens the
scope of the committee to Active Transportation and Trails.”

Committee members are asked to share if any of the above streets have particular
interest by the committee and would warrant further discussion following subcommittee
discussion.
4. Volunteer Trivia Night

Overview
Volunteer services is hosting a trivia night on Tuesday March 16, 7 p.m. Pop culture to
science and everything in between plus some "name that tune"! As part of the
registration process you will determine whether you want to participate with just your
household or be put on a team with other volunteers. This event is one is a series of
Kitchener Cycling and Trails Advisory Committee
virtual volunteer appreciation events we will be hosting over the coming months to thank
you for volunteering.

5. Region of Waterloo Bike Map

Overview
The 2021 Region of Waterloo Bike Map is a summary of all bike infrastructure in the
cities and townships of Waterloo Region. The map highlights public art, scenic historic
bridges, the Hydrocut trails (a premier mountain bike destination), and Ontario by
Bike’s Bike-Friendly Businesses. You can get a hard copy of the map at local bike
shops and Bike-Friendly Businesses, or view the map online at
https://www.regionofwaterloo.ca/en/living-here/cycling-and-walking.aspx#

6. City of Kitchener orientation

Overview
Committee members asked for further orientation on the departments and
responsibilities at the City of Kitchener, and jurisdictional responsibilities between the
city and Region of Waterloo.
