Further information will be provided on consultation results on e-scooters and next steps. Expectations of Committee For discussion. Feedback requested on: 1. Does the committee have any questions/concerns with the project team proceeding with the Preferred Option for e-scooter permissions? 2. Does the committee have any feedback/issues/ideas that the project team should consider over the summer as we finalize the permissions bylaw and develop recommended rules and requirements for rental companies (e-scooter share)? 3. Optional - is the committee in a position to provide support in principle for the Preferred Option? 2. Provincial Consultations on E-Bikes Overview The Province of Ontario has reopened consultations on new definitions for Power- Assisted Bicycles (E-Bikes). The definition of an e-bike would be amended to include three specific classes:  Type 1 e-bikes: traditional bicycle-style e-bikes  Type 2 e-bikes: moped-style e-bikes  Type 3 e-bikes: motorcycle-style e-bikes All three classes of e-bikes would continue to be treated as bicycles (i.e., would not need to be registered or insured, operators would not require a license). More information can be found at https://www.ontariocanada.com/registry/view.do?postingId=37389&language=en Expectation of Committee For information. Members are encouraged to provide input as an individual at the provincial website. 3. Cycling into the Future From: Christian Aagard, Cycling into the Future Kitchener Cycling and Trails Advisory Committee Overview Phillip Martin, a Sheppard Public School teacher (now retired) developed Cycling Into The Future as means of teaching children safe riding skills. Specifically, safe on-road riding skills. Working with principals and teachers in Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo, CITF has trained about 5,000 Grades 5 and 6 students since 2014. Six modules make up the program: Rules and Safety; Tune-ups; Tire Repair; Rodeo Riding (in schoolyard); Road Riding; and Assessment. In 2019 -- the last year CITF completed spring and fall training rounds -- the program reached 1,243 students in 17 schools, including five schools in Kitchener. It also gave away 179 new and refurbished bicycles, and 195 new helmets. Seventy-students who had few skills on a bicycle, or or none at all, learned to ride. The program costs $75 per student, but families pay only $25. Among donors offsetting the program’s costs are the cities of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge and the Region of Waterloo. The municipal contribution amounts to $15 per student. As did many other school-focused agencies in 2020 and 2021, Cycling Into the Future (CITF) suspended programming due to the coronavirus pandemic, but remains very busy and highlights of that work will be shared. Expectations of Committee For information. Questions welcome. 4. Subcommittee updates Overview Each subcommittee is encouraged to provide an update on recent progress:  Trail standards  Bike parking  Vision Zero  Complete Streets  Events & promotions Expectations of Committee For information and discussion. 5.
