Welcome Karen Redman, Chair, Region of Waterloo 2. Economic Recovery and the Future Chris Albinson, CEO, Communitech Chris is the co-founder of the C100, MIE, FCC, BreakawayGrowth Fund, and Panorama Capital, and also a Board Member at Senso.ai. Previously, Chris was Managing Director & Co-Founder at BreakawayGrowth Fund and Panorama Capital, Chairman of the Board at NinthDecimal, General Partner at JP Morgan Partners and General Partner & Founder of Founders Circle Capital. Chris also helped grow four startups, most recently as Chief Strategy Officer for Digital Island (IPO & acquired by Cable & Wireless). 3. Tourism: Hardest Hit and Last to Recover Minto Schneider, CEO, Waterloo Region Tourism Marketing Corporation Minto joined Waterloo Region Tourism Marketing Corporation in 2013. Minto has a strong background in the tourism business. She began her career with Hilton International in Vancouver. After a few moves with Hilton from Vancouver to Saint John, N.B., Toronto and Halifax, she left the hotel business to join Tourism Nova Scotia. She spent over a decade with the Provincial Marketing Organization before trying her hand as a tour operator and moving south of the border to Westport, Connecticut where she joined Tauck World Discovery. 3661928 All CouncilsAgenda-2-21/06/17 4. Delivering our Energy Transition Rene Gatien, President and CEO, Waterloo North Hydro Rene Gatien is the President and CEO of Waterloo North Hydro (WNH) since July 2002. Mr. Gatien was previously the Vice-President of Operations for Guelph Hydro for 11 years. Mr. Gatien has been directly involved in commercial and industrial buildings employing geothermal systems for heating, hot water heating and air condition since 1988 at a private business in Sudbury, 1995 at Guelph Hydro, and 2011 at the Waterloo North Hydro building on Country Squire Road. Waterloo North Hydro is a founding member of Sustainable Waterloo Region, the Community Energy Investment Strategy, and Waterloo Region Community Energy where Mr. Gatien is a member of the Governance Committee. Matthew Day, Community Energy Program Manager, WR Community Energy Matthew manages WR Community Energy which is the hub for energy planning in Waterloo Region. It is a partnership between the five local utilities and four urban and upper tier municipalities in Waterloo Region. Previously, he was the program Sustainability Initiative. Matthew is dedicated to supporting a clean, efficient, and equitable energy future. Matthew is a Certified Energy Manager and graduate of the University of Toronto where he received an M.A in Urban Geography. 5. Transforming Waterloo Region: Why Municipal Climate Leadership is the Safe Bet Kate Daley, Environment Sustainability Specialist, Region of Waterloo particular focus on climate change. She has had a diverse career spanning community advocacy, political science research and teaching, and non-profit and municipal staff roles. A common thread uniting this diverse work is transformative change, and helping decision-makers and community members see and seize opportunities to change their communities and their lives for the better. 6.
