1.2021 HERITAGE KITCHENER SUB-COMMITTEES
V. Grohn explained that staff were hoping to begin receiving feedback from the Committee
regarding the objectives and next steps for the sub-committees identified at the previous
meeting. The Chair then led a discussion regarding the primary lead, goals and potential
projects, and any required resources for each other subcommittees
The Committee first heard feedback regarding the sub-committee for Effects of Designation on
Affordability, including interest in a research project into a literature review, apotential future
report, and the opportunity to seek input and collaboration from other City of Kitchener
Committees.
The Committee then discussed the sub-committee for Promoting Cultural Heritage. The
Committee noted past input on potential projects, including plaques and Jane's Walk.
Regarding the sub-committee forDecolonizing the Heritage Process, the Committee heard
interest in reviewing processes for Committee appointment and composition, a best-practices
report regarding municipal efforts to decolonize heritage, as well as reflection on the values
system previously used to view history and heritage and the local historical figures, groups, or
events not captured by that lens. The Committee noted existing working groups and staff within
the City who could be potential resources in this work.
Further, the Committee discussed Designations and the Municipal Heritage Register and heard
interest in identifying three to five properties for potential designation, sharing the Municipal
Heritage Register,reviewing the evaluation form, and a training session regarding the relevant
architectural styles.
The Chair noted that they would reach out to those identified for each sub-committee regarding
solidifying the objectives and timelines for their work plansand spoke to the reporting of sub-
committees at future Heritage Kitchener meetings.
2.COMMUNITY HERITAGE ONTARIO (CHO) MEMBERSHIP
V. Grohn spoke to the Committee's past membership with Community Heritage Ontario, the
newsletter, conference, and the educational resources offered. V. Grohn requested input from
the members regarding continuing the membership and received favourable feedback from the
Committee.

There were no status updates to share at this time.
