Gaudon – Chair Messrs.: J. Sherwood, J. Duchesne, M. Jennings, R. Fyck, M. Jennings, T. Belanger Regrets: S. Fulop, G. Johns, D. Bailey, S. Biskupovic, Cllr. B. Ioannidis, Cllr. D. Chapman Staff: C. Committee Lead Projects –Working Groups The committee members separated into their respective working groups as outlined below to discuss the committee lead projects. Zoom Breakout Rm 1 - Places and Spaces Strategy o J. Duchesne, J. Gaudon, Zoom Breakout Rm 4 - Rain Barrel Program o R. Fyck Zoom Breakout Rm 2 - Tree Canopy Protection/Planting/Maintenance (Public & Private) o T. Belanger, J. Gaudon Zoom Breakout Rm 3 - Trashtember/Trashtober Fest & Compost Waste in Apt. & Multi-unit Bldgs. o M. Jennings, J. Sherwood 2. Committee Discussion Committee members returned to the main virtual meeting room to share a high-level summary of their discussions. Zoom Breakout Rm 1 - Places and Spaces Strategy - J. Duchesne, J. Gaudon J. Gaudon and J. Duchesne shared the possibility of reviewing the Parks Master or creating a pamphlet overviewing feature parks for the City of Kitchener with historical details, current attractions, and seasonal features. C. Musselman advised there is a similar digital option called, Story-Maps, that could be updated, Joshua Shea is the staff contact and the City of Kitchener is working on updating the Parks Strategic Plan. Also suggested was a potential stewardship program (like pruning invasive species such as grapevine in Kitchener neighbourhoods) which could tie-in with opportunities with Neighbourhood Associations on Earth Day. Additionally, discussed was developing a partnership with U of W of Ecological Restoration Society students. Zoom Breakout Rm 2 - Tree Canopy Protection/Planting/Maintenance (Public & Private) - T. Belanger C. Musselman provided a brief overview of the Tree Conversation Bylaw, Tree Management Policy and Kitchener’s Tree Canopy Target in comparison. Zoom Breakout Rm 3 - Trashtember/Trashtober Fest & Compost Waste in Apt. & Multi-unit Bldgs. - M. Jennings, J. Sherwood The group discussed converting the focus from Fall to Earth Day and Spring 2022. Zoom Breakout Rm 4 - Rain Barrel Program - R. Fyck R. Fyck contacted Reep Green to receive update on the former water barrel program. It is now a water management assessment program where Reep Green reviews people’s entire properties to assess the best design for water management. Reep Green advised that this program could be tied into a rain barrel education program. The committee did not return to the breakout rooms a second time.
