Varin, Program Assistant, Arts & Creative Industries 1.Acceptance of agenda Acceptedwith item number sixrescheduled to the February meeting 2.Declaration of conflict of interest None 3.Delegation None DISCUSSION ITEMS: 4.Conrad Centre for the Performing Arts: E. Robson Ms. E. Robson shared with the committee that the Conrad family made a recent donation of the Centre to the city of Kitchener. It will continue to bear itsname. A 300-seat theatre, it has been operated thus far by Kitchener Waterloo Symphony (KWS) and the space leased, used and administered by Greenlight Arts –a local theatre company. Ms. E. Robson shared a short video about the donation which included reflections bythe mayor and city councilors. Ms. E. Robson indicated that work will be started by city staff on developing an approach to creating an operational model and in addition to consultations with other stakeholders, she will be approaching ACAC members forinput. The goal of the operational model would be to have the facility used as often as possible with a focus on local performers. ACAC members had an opportunity to discuss and ask questions of Ms. E. Robson. Some of the questions and comments raised by committee members were: ensuring the space is accessible and affordable, investment into additional sound insulation and a tour of the facility once COVID restrictions are lifted. 5.Doon Pioneer Park Community Centre Public Art Acquisition: K.Varin Ms. Varin gave a presentation explaining the city’s public art policy and collectionprocess, in the context of the selection of the public art proposal titled Outdoor Community–a curvilinear bench to be sited in front of the centre. She continued with an overview of the final bench design,site, budget and timeline, following consultations carried out with the artist team,with other city staff to address questions raised about materials and maintenance, the Grand River Accessibility Committee and an engineering firmabout materials and structural stability. Arts and Creative Industries staff prepared a report recommending the city to enter into an agreement with the artist for fabrication and installationof the bench.Ms. M. Melo noted to consult with the artist team when any shading structure discussions take place in the future.The Public Art Working Group January 2021-ACAC Minutes 1 ARTS ANDCULTURE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (ACAC) MINUTES JANUARY19, 2021CITY OF KITCHENER recommended that the selection of this work, be forwarded to ACAC for further recommendation. Staff was seekingsupport from ACACfor endorsementof the proposed artwork. On a motion made by Ms.A.Girard, and seconded by Ms. C.Anjaria,the committee unanimously carried the motion: “That ACAC endorse the jury selection of artist team, the OPS Design Studio’s, proposed art work, Outdoor Community, for Doon Pioneer Park Community Centre.” Carried ActionItem: Staff to email ACAC committee the link to the full report 6.Committee Areas of Interest:moved to February meeting Action Item: Staff to email ACAC committee proposed topics for discussion prior to theFebruary meeting INFORMATION ITEMS: 7.Committee Governance:K. Varin Ms. K. Varin summarizedthe roles of cross appointments of ACAC members to EDAC, DAAC and PAWG. She invited questions about these cross appointments, as well as any related to theterms of referencefor these committees or ACAC. She reminded members to keep considering their candidacy for thecross appointments as well as for the chair and vice chair appointments forACAC. The voting will take place at the February meeting. Ms. K. Varin also reminded members of the upcoming training for the role of the chairs,and invited anybody considering theseroles, to attend. Action Item: ACAC members to continue to email Ms. K. Varin their candidacy for the role of chair or vice chair of ACAC. 8.Council report:Councilor D. Schnider Coucilor D. Schnider reportedthat the budget was passed by Council.
