ARTS AND CULTURE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (ACAC) MINUTES

The Arts and Culture Advisory Committee met virtually onMarch16,2021, commencing at 4:00 p.m.

DISCUSSION ITEMS:
4.COVID Recovery intervention discussion:E. Robson, E. Rumble
E. Robson and E. Rumble presented a draft Covid-19 Recovery Plan and asked members
for feedback. The committee focused on aligning topics into “buckets”. Topics included:
Provide collaboration opportunities which actually benefit artists
Maintainingmomentum of festivals/events when in-person is not available
Dynamics around what’s allowed under law vs. what’s prudent publicly
Virtual programming: online arts classes where materials are provided have worked
well
Tools: film crew to record programming/tours, outdoor art galleries,tent for outdoor
performances
Grants are difficult for small groups to apply for—consider alternative submission
processes
Action: E. Robson to update the document and present to the committee for next
steps.

As per above. Next meeting’s goal is to focus on an action plan.

6.City updates:E. Robson
E. Robson updated members on the Doon Pioneer Park Community Centre bench:
possible donation of materials from supplier and partnership with an educational
institution. She updated members on the Reimagine Winter program –siting of artwork
Arenaat Homer Watson House and Gallery, miniature artworksin little libraries, KWAG
sculpture garden lighting and various other passive activities for the community.

8.Downtown Action and Advisory Committee:J.Paquette
The committee discussed the stigma of the downtown. A suggestion was made to consider
a granting system to partner artists and restaurants. Kitchener Market was also a topic,
with the committee asking if thereshould be days scheduled that don’t compete with the St.
Jacob’s market. And further, ideas about utilizing the facility outside of Saturdays. J.
Paquette noted that breakout sessions worked verywell and H. Polad suggested
incorporating them into ACAC meetings.
Themeeting was adjourned at 5:30p.m.
