AUGUST 3, 2022 CITY OF KITCHENER
The Compass Kitchener Advisory Committee met electronically this date, commencing at 4:05 p.m.
Present: Ms. J. Stephens -Wells — Chair, Ms. L. Trumper, Ms. M. Goveas, Ms. R. Lavender, Ms. A.
Thornton, Ms. K. Williams and Messrs. W. Rahimi, J. Orbegoso and O. Samad.
Staff: A. Fritz -Walters, Engagement Program Manager — Strategic Planning
STRATEGIC PLAN — REVIEW OF PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT INPUT AND DRAFT COUNCIL
REPORT ON COMMUNITY PRIORITIES
Ms. A. Fritz -Walters shared an overview of the public engagement process to date and also
demonstrated the Engage Page which has been established to gather public input — reviewing
the format, questions and responses received to date.
Members shared their feedback on this page commenting on the layout, the language and the
variety of options provided. Noting that not all respondents will want to comment on all the
topics, Ms. R. Lavender asked whether it would be possible to have a hyper -linked list of topics
for comment early in the document so that individuals could easily move to the particular topic
on which they wished to offer comments without having to scroll through the entire survey . She
also asked whether a process had been established for sharing with other levels of government
comments received on issues which fall outside of municipal responsibilities but fall within the
responsibility of another level of government.
Staff advised that the date for delivery of the Committee's report to Council on the proposed
community priorities has been delayed allowing for more engagement to occur and more
feedback made available for analysis. It was suggested that an additional advisory committee
meeting be scheduled for September 28th to allow members an opportunity to review further
engagement results and refine the draft recommendation of community priorities to share at the
October 5th All Advisory Committees meeting.
An additional request was tabled for an opportunity for the current committee members and the
incoming (to be appointed) committee members to meet jointly in December 2022 to finalize the
report to Council. Ms. A. Fritz -Walters agreed to investigate this possibility with Legislated
Services staff and advise.
FALL ALL ADVISORY COMMITTEES MEETING
If possible, it was agreed to schedule an in-person meeting of representatives from all Advisory
Committees on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at a time and location to be determined. The
topics for discussion will be the draft Community Priorities and a preview of the 20 -year vision
artistic contributions.
Staff will begin to work on the logistics for the October All Advisory Committees meeting.
