September 28, 2022 CITY OF KITCHENER
The Equity & Anti-Racism Advisory Committee to Council met electronically this date, commencing at
5:30 p.m.
Present: Saba Oji (Co-Chair), Paul Okoye (Co-Chair), Aaliyah Whyte-Watson, Avni Adams, Ayesha
Munir, Christine Furniss, Danny Martin, Sharon Van Manen, Shawn (Bangishimo) Johnston,
Yexin Tan.
Absent: Andrea Daley
Staff: Rea Parchment, Committee Staff Liaison
Amanda Drumond, Committee Administrator
1. CHECK-IN AND REQUEST TO ADOPT AGENDA ITEMS
Agenda items reviewed and approved.
2. EARAC RECOGNITION DISCUSSION
Discussion took place among committee members regarding preference for how they wish to be
recognized for their involvement beyond receiving an honorarium. Suggestions included:
Certificate
Letter of Thanks
In-person event
Rea will create an online poll and send out to the group for further feedback and a final decision.
3. WORKPLAN DISCUSSION CONTINUATION
Saba shared a summary of the workplan that has been created to-date. Expectation is to have the
workplan finalized by the end of the committee term so that the group can pass it on to the in-coming
committee members, with the hope that it will provide a solid foundation and a place to start at the
beginning of the next term. It was noted that the workplan should focus on how the committee would
like to be involved and work with the city on the priorities identified.
Once the workplan is finalized, Rea will assist with formatting, spelling, readability, etc.
4. RISE APPLICATIONS GROUP REVIEW
Committee members have completed individual application reviews and have come prepared to discuss
applicants and reach a consensus about the Fall 2022 RISE Fund recipients.

At this time the Chair stated by resolution that a closed session meeting will be held to allow for the
committee to consider the applications submitted for the RISE Fund community grant, which includes
personal matters about an identifiable individual and falls within the exceptions as set out in s. 239 of
the Act, and as per Municipal Code Chapter 25.4.6 Meeting Closed to the Public, subsection (2).

7. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 7:44 pm.
