Discussion Items
1 . Kitchener's Strategic Plan 2023-2026
Kitchener's strategic plan is our community's shared vision for the future of
our city. We're working on our 2023-2026 strategic plan and want you to be
part of the planning process. What should we focus on 4 years and even 20
years from now? Have your say and share your vision with us. Your input
will help us build a strategic plan that best reflects the unique needs of our
community — and develop a 20-year vision for the future of our city.
There are plenty of ways to share your ideas and input:
➢ Add your ideas online or at a neighbourhood conversation in-person
➢ Share your vision for the future of Kitchener through artistic
contributions
➢ Speak with one of our Street Team members at local parks, events,
and facilities
➢ Take part in a deeper conversation by volunteering for our resident
panel
The vision will guide future City priorities and decisions that will move us
toward a shared long-term future. The strategic plan will identify key goals
and actions the city will take over the next four years to move us closer to
achieving that vision.
Engaging you in this important work ensures that we are aligning our efforts
with the needs of the community. And equally important, it builds trust with
residents, knowing they can count on their local government to deliver the
valued programs and services that they need.
Hearing what is most important to you has never been more important than
it is today. Engagement started with Environics Telephone survey — 1000
residents identified 6 major themes, which have become the focal point of
our Ideas Boards, so we can learn more about these topics:
1 . Sustainability
2. Housing Affordability
3. Urban Growth
4. Delivering City Programs and Services
5. Recreation and Leisure Programs and Services
6. Public Engagement
20-year vision sets a longer-term target for what we aspire to be as a city,
and concrete targets will be set over consecutive council terms to help us
achieve that vision. Engagement includes an artistic component on our
Engage Page — under the tab Share Your Vision.
Comments/Feedback
➢ Question was posed regarding where community safety
came up as priority? Community safety came up but did not
bubble up as a priority
➢ Link to be shared via email
2. Access Without Fear
a. Review of the Draft Policy
➢ Discussion regarding the changes made to the Access
without Fear policy. Draft policy and implementation plan to
be emailed to committee
➢ The only thing not included from committee feedback was the
idea of sharing with other municipalities and partners but
rather to include that idea with the implementation of the
policy
Implementation Plan development
➢ Approval by CLT needed, and then the report is taken to the
standing committee (pre council meeting) and then it would
be taken to council for approval on December 12th, if
approved the policy would be in effect as of that date
➢ Staff training to be rolled out in February and then a public
awareness campaign to be brought forward, as well as,
including the policy with the community grants
Comments/Feedback
Committee strongly feels that in included in the policy should be that any
partners/business working with the City of Kitchener must also agree with
this policy
