HomeMy WebLinkAboutSHCAC Minutes - 2022-11-09 The Safe and Healthy Community Advisory Committee met this date, November 9th, 2022, commencing at 4:00 p.m. Present: Rawan Hussein Amy Venner Staff: Mark Hildebrand, Director, Neighbourhood Programs & Services LoriAnn Palubeski, Manager, Program & Resource Services Guest: Elin Morlag-Silk Delegations NIL Discussion Items 1. Access Without Fear Policy Elin provided a project update. The policy was presented to the Corporate Leadership Team and approved with changes. Human Resources and Legal were a few of the departments that provided content updates. The feedback has been beneficial and has been incorporated. The draft policy is scheduled to go to Standing Committee on December 12th and Council on the 19th. There is a potential it could be delayed until January, but staff will keep committee members posted. Elin highlighted the changes to the policy- - Clarity on what the policy addressed, as noted in the first paragraph in the purpose section - Updated listed of services that the policy is applicable to - Clarity related to how privacy of information and what is and what is not disclosed - Complaint process regarding the policy - As per the committee's previous feedback, community partners that engage in business with the City are encouraged to adopt the policy Elin briefed the group on the implementation plan for the policy once it is approved. This will include internal staff training and external communication to the community. Staff intend to start the implementation plan in February 2023 if the policy is approved in December 2022. Discussion — committee members supported the policy updates and agreed to appear as a delegate to Council to speak in support of the policy. Rawan and Amy will work together to prepare content with the support of staff as needed. 2. Future of the Safe & Healthy Communities Advisory Committee — Mark This is the last official meeting of the committee as staff wait for further direction. The December meeting will remain on hold as we can used that time to prepare for the Council meeting.
