ARTS ANDCULTURE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (ACAC) MINUTES
JANUARY 17, 2023CITY OF KITCHENER
The Arts and Culture Advisory Committee met at city hallonJanuary 17, 2023, commencing at 4:00 p.m.

M. Blake outlined committee procedures including, but not limited to roles of members and staff,
meeting procedures such as motions and voting, and code of conduct.

4.Introductions:members and staff
All staff and members gave brief introductions.
5.Introduction PackageQuestion and Answer: staff
The committee administrator provided an introduction package ahead of the meeting. Staff clarified
that the appointed Councillor to the committee remains Councillor Dave Schneider. Members
suggested to add the following information to the package:
Information about Tier 1 and Tier 2 grants, including the decision-making body and funding
sources
Clarification of selection process for membership on committees
Processto followfor members unable to serve afull term
6.Sub-Committees representation, Chair and Vice Chair roles:K. Varin
K. Varin outlined the responsibilities of chair and vice chair, gave information aboutthe three other
advisory committees (DAAC, EDAC and PAWG) which typically have an ACAC representative,
and the purpose ofACAC representation.
I. Stefanescu suggested to include links to these committee minutes in future ACAC agendas to
supplement in more detail the information representatives shareduring an ACAC meeting.
Members also expressed interest in considering other committees for cross appointments.
Action: members interested in serving as chair, vice chair or sub-committee representative,

7.Summary of 2022, priorities and workplan for new term:members
Staff asked returning members to share some of the various items the committee worked on and
key topics that emerged from the year end committee evaluation. Members shared:
It would be beneficial to introduce and provide information on topics sooner
Members suggested to examine the relationship between the Public Art Working Group
and ACAC which may entail adjusting the Terms of Reference for both committees
Advocating for CARFAC Exhibition fees:members suggested toreview the Berlin Tower
Artspace exhibition program–ACAC can advocate for change through making a motion,
submitting a report, and presenting to Council.
Action: place discussion of fees on February agenda
Tosupport the development of a workplan, Arts and CreativeIndustriesstaff communicatedthe
three key items that emerged from the Economic Development Make It Kitchener 2.0 strategic plan
and the Corporate Strategic Planwhich they are currently working on:
1.Future of 44 Gaukel Creative Hub
2.Review of all the city owned performing facilities
3.Culture Plan
Consultation with ACACon each item will be added to future meeting agendas.
Themeeting was adjourned at 5:40p.m.
