The City of Kitchener is participating in a multi -stakeholder initiative, referred to as
ClimateActionWR. ClimateActionWR is leading implementation of the Climate Action Plan for
Waterloo Region with a 6 % reduction target and the next generation plan called TransformWR
with much deeper targets (50% by 2030 and 80% by 2050) from our 2010 community baseline.
On April 17, 2023, ClimateActionWR made presentation to Council on Our Progress, Our
Path 2019/2020 Greenhouse Gas Re -inventory Report. The Council presentation will be
circulated to committee members in advance of the CCEAC May meeting. The committee is
invited to review this progress report and engage in discussion at the May meeting.

Subject: 2022 - 2024 Committee Work Plan Discussion

1) As per the Committee's Terms of Reference, at the beginning of each term, the committee in
cooperation with staff will prepare a work plan that identifies priority environmental issues and
actions.
2) Priority environmental issues should relate to and assist with advancing Council's strategic
priorities, as well as priorities outlined in ...
a. Strategic Plan,
b. Strategic Plan for the Environment,
c. Corporate Climate Action Plan, and
d. TransformWR Climate Action Strategy.
3) Actions should link to the environmental issues identified and be consistent with the duties of the
Committee, such as:
a. Provide input on relevant environmental issues, policies, projects, or programs that are
within the jurisdiction of the municipality.
b. Serve as a forum for delegations to provide public input on environmental matters.
c. Discuss new, relevant, or unexplored environmental or climate change issues.
d. Assist Council and staff in identifying research needs and environmental data gaps, assist in
gathering data, undertaking research, and formulating a strategy to improve the information
available for private and public use.
e. Support approved municipal initiatives with respect to the education of citizens on matters of
environment significance.
f. Undertake other environmental projects assigned by Council from time to time.
4) Sub -committees may be formed to complete specific actions related to the committee's work plan
but must report through the committee. A sub -committee cannot meet or exceed quorum.
