Ms. Stefanescuexplained how different types of galleries operate underlining the differences
between public and private galleries. Typically, private galleries are profit driven, and artist receive
a commission payment from sales of works, whereas public galleries are mandate-driven,and
artists receive a payment for exhibiting works for the public’s enjoyment. An organization called
CARFAC -Canadian Artists Representation | Front des artistes Canadiens–founded in the 1960’s
regulates and advises on the royalties/amounts to be paid to artistsfor production, exhibition, and
usage of artworks. Ms. Stefanescu provided statistics on median artist incomes. Members

need to be allocated to do so.Members proposed considering drafting a motion to Council.
