1. Disclosure of Pecuniary Interest and the General Nature Thereof

Overview
Committee members are to review the agenda and disclose if they have any conflicts of
interest with any items listed. If they do, they will be required to sit in the gallery during
that particular item and refrain from participating in any discussion or voting on said
item. They will also be required to fill out an online form following the meeting at:

2. DMAF Schneider & Shoemaker Creek Restoration

Overview
An Environmental Assessment is taking place for the naturalization of the confluence of
Schneider and Shoemaker Creeks. The current creeks are concrete-lined channels with
the Iron Horse Trail running adjacent to them. The study will look at options for the
creek alignment which may alter the existing layout of the Iron Horse Trail as well.

the Government of Canada.

3. Highway 85 Ramp - Debrief

Overview
The Regional of Waterloo Council recently voted to keep open the Highway 85 –
Lancaster Street West ramps. ATTAC discussed this project in the April meeting before
the final decision was made.

4. Land Acknowledgement Discussion

Overview
At the last meeting, J Broschek led a discussion on beginning each ATTAC meeting
with a land acknowledgement. The City has since provided preferred wording for the
Advisory Committee to use. The wording is as follows:
I (we) would like to begin by acknowledging the land on which we gather today,
recognizing that the city of Kitchener is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the traditional
territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee Peoples. I (we) would also
like to acknowledge the enduring knowledge, presence and deep-rooted traditions of
the First Nations, Métis and Inuit who continue to enrich our community to this day.

5. Strategic Plan

Overview
The development of Kitchener’s 2023-2026 Strategic Plan is nearing completion.
Following significant public consultations, draft materials have been developed,
including a 20 Year Vision Statement and Story, as well as Strategic Goal Areas and
Statements. Strategic Actions for Year 1 and 2 are being developed and will be
available for discussion at the next ATTAC meeting. The final staff report to City Council
is planned for August 14.
Expectations of Committee
Please review the materials attached. ATTAC is invited to prepare a statement and/or
delegation to advise City Council on their decision-making for the Strategic Plan.
Further discussion can occur at the July ATTAC meeting as well.
6. Volunteer Opportunities

Kitchener Active Transportation and Trails Advisory Committee
Overview
Allison Mills will discuss volunteer opportunities at upcoming Kitchener cycling events,
as well as upcoming BikeCheck events.

7. Councilor Rides

Overview
This summer, City staff plans to invite all Councillors to participate in a bike ride in their
ward to visit past, current and future projects from the Cycling and Trails Master Plan.
Routes and dates to be determined.

One volunteer from ATTAC is invited to join for each ride.
8. East Avenue 60% Design Review
From: Ivan Balaban, City of Kitchener
Overview
The City of Kitchener will be reconstructing East Avenue in 2024 to replace
underground services. As a part of that project, the road surface will be redesigned to
apply Complete Streets guidelines, and implement Triple-A cycling facilities, as outlined
in the Cycling and Trails Master Plan.
The public engagement portion of this project has begun on engageWR.ca
The 60% design will be presented to the committee for review.

9. Staff Updates

Overview
Staff will provide updates on a variety of projects and events, either upcoming or
currently underway.
