HomeMy WebLinkAboutEquity Anti-Racism Advisory Committee Minutes - 2023-07-12EQUITY & ANTI-RACISM ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES July 12, 2023 CITY OF KITCHENER The Equity & Anti-Racism Advisory Committee met electronically this date, commencing at 5:30 p.m. Present: Danny Martin (Co-Chair), Veronica Vasquez (Co-Chair), Ann Marie Beals, Avni Adams, Ayesha Munir, Leo Campbell, Paul Okoye, Saba Oji Absent: Fiorella Benini, Oluseun Olayinka, Rida Rahman, Yexin Tan Staff: Rea Parchment, Committee Staff Liaison Amanda Drumond, Committee Administrator 1. CHECK-IN AND APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES D. Martin convened the meeting. Previous minutes to be distributed and approved by email. 2. DISCLOSURE OF PECUNIARY INTEREST AND THE GENERAL NATURE THEREOF - NIL 3. DEBRIEF AND PROCESS IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE RISE FUND R. Parchment shared a presentation with committee members to give an overview of data collected from the past three RISE Fund grant cycles (2022-2023). This data will be used to inform a discussion about improvements to the RISE Fund grant application and selection process. Following the presentation, V. Vasquez led a debrief discussion with members regarding process improvements for the RISE Fund grant. Topics covered included: What went well What was missing What required more clarity What caused a barrier Any items that the committee would like to implement before the next application cycle opens (Fall 2023) Comments/suggestions from the group: - Staff screening of applications upfront to ensure completion prior to committee review - Prepare grant application scoring rubric to aid with selection process - Add categories to the grant application; applicants to choose the category that best fits their request - Plan information/networking session for grant applicants to facilitate potential collaboration of groups - Review website for clarity and consistency - Implement word limit on application responses R. Parchment advised that City staff are also having conversations with I.T. department to explore other software platforms that have added features / more user friendly. R. Parchment advised as a next step she will be sending an email to committee members to confirm outcomes of discussion before applying some of the suggested changes to the next application intake cycle (Fall 2023). 4.
