Land Acknowledgement (5 minutes) From: Committee Member Overview Pronunciation guide: Anishinaabeg (Ah-nish-nah-beg) Haudenosaunee (Ho-den-o-show-nee) I (we) would like to begin by acknowledging the land on which we gather today, recognizing that the city of Kitchener is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee Peoples. I (we) would also like to acknowledge the enduring knowledge, presence and deep-rooted traditions of the First Nations, Métis and Inuit who continue to enrich our community to this day. Expectations of Committee Reflection 3. Active Transportation Progress Report (15 minutes) From: Darren Kropf, City of Kitchener Overview An Active Transportation Progress Report is scheduled to be presented to City Council on September 18, 2023. The purpose of this report is to provide an update on progress made on Kitchener’s award-winning Cycling and Trails Master Plan, as well as other active transportation and trail initiatives. The key finding of this report is that more people are walking, rolling and cycling thanks to Kitchener’s strong progress on implementing the Cycling and Trails Master Plan. Expectations of Committee ATTAC submitted a paragraph in the report and is also invited to appear as a delegation to City Council. 4. Bike Rack Requests – Website form (15 minutes) From: Steve Ryder, City of Kitchener Overview Each year the City receives numerous requests to install bike racks on city-owned property. The City plans to launch a new online form for the public to request bike racks, as requested by ATTAC at previous meetings, and identified as an action item in the Cycling and Trails Master Plan. Wilson Avenue Reconstruction – 60% Design (15 minutes) From: Darren Kropf, City of Kitchener Overview Wilson Avenue from Kingsdale Community Centre to Fairlawn Road is scheduled for a reconstruction starting in 2024. This section of Wilson Ave currently has painted bike lanes and is identified on the Cycling and Trails Master Plan as being part of the spine network, with proposed Separated Bicycle Lanes. A 60% design has been completed by the city’s consultant and will be presented to the committee. Expectations of Committee For information and discussion 6. Cycling Equity Toolkit - Introduction (15 minutes) From: Darren Kropf, City of Kitchener Overview An introduction to the Cycling Equity Toolkit. Condensed from The Centre for Active Transportation’s website: This Cycling Equity Toolkit is authored by Jay Pitter and developed through a collaborative process that engaged eight cycling and active transportation organizations across Canada. The Toolkit is evidence-based and contains key practice principles, frameworks, research demonstrating the dimensions of inequity, and precedents reflecting emerging equitable practices and policies. It also contains numerous reflection questions with form-fillable boxes, checklists and real-world recommendations to help readers integrate their background knowledge and specific context with new learnings. Councilor Bike Rides – Summary (15 minutes) From: Darren Kropf, City of Kitchener Overview This year, City staff are inviting all Councillors to participate in a bike ride in their ward to visit past, current, and future projects from the Cycling and Trails Master Plan. A volunteer from ATTAC will attend each of these rides. To date, Councilor rides have been held in Ward 8, 9, and 10. Staff and committee members will provide a short debrief of the rides held thus far. Expectations of Committee For information. 8.
