SUBJECT: 2023 Committee Member Appointments - Committee of Adjustment,
Heritage Kitchener Committee, Arts and Culture Advisory Committee &
Centre in the Square Board
RECOMMENDATION:
That effective immediately Marco Gambetti be appointed to the Committee of Adjustment
for the term ending November 14, 2024; and,
That effective immediately Tyler Marshall be appointed to the Heritage Kitchener
Committee for the term ending November 14, 2024; and,
That effective immediately Chidi Nwene and Brenda Reid be appointed to the Arts and
Culture Advisory Committee for the term ending November 14, 2024; and further,
That effective January 1, 2024, Becka Borody and David Cameron be reappointed to the
Centre in the Square Board for the term ending December 31, 2026.
REPORT HIGHLIGHTS:
• The purpose of this report is to appoint new members to the Committee of Adjustment,
Heritage Kitchener Committee, and Arts and Culture Advisory Committee, due to the
resignation of previously appointed members; and to reappoint Centre in the Square Board
members, concluding their first three-year term.
• This report supports the delivery of core services.
BACKGROUND:
On November 16, 2022, Council appointed citizens and members of Council to various advisory
committees, boards, and special committees for the current term. At the Striking Committee
meeting, five individuals were appointed to the Committee of Adjustment, thirteen individuals
were appointed to the Heritage Kitchener Committee and twelve individuals were appointed to
the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee, for the term ending November 14, 2024. On July 31,
2023, David Gundrum resigned from the Committee of Adjustment leaving the Committee of

Adjustment with three remaining members. The Heritage Kitchener Committee currently has ten
remaining members, due to the resignation of members Brianne Casey, Taijwant (Tony) Geer,
and Robyn Schwarz. Regarding the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee, nine members are
remaining, due to the departure of Mark Waddell, Chandrika Anjaria, and Anna McWebb. As a
result of the mid-term vacancies for the Committee of Adjustment, Heritage Kitchener and Arts
and Culture Advisory Committee, the City of Kitchener began advertising recruitment and
accepting applications on the City website for the Committees outlined in this report.
At the Striking Committee meeting members of Council representatives were appointed, to the
Centre in the Square (CITS) Board. The Boards of Kitchener Public Library (KPL), Centre in the
Square (CITS), Kitchener Housing Inc. (KHI), and Kitchener Power Corporation (KPC) are
responsible for selecting their own citizen candidates for Council's approval and so are not
considered by the Nominating Committee for recommendation. Due to the completion of two
members' first three-year term, the Centre in the Square Board is recommending reappointment
for the members' second three-year term ending on December 31, 2026, effective January 1,
2024.
REPORT:
From August 21, 2023 to September 5, 2023, the City of Kitchener reopened recruitment for the
Committee of Adjustment, Heritage Kitchener Committee, and Arts and Advisory Committee due
to the mid-term vacancies, and corresponding need for additional membership. A Nominating
Committee was reappointed by Council on September 25, 2023, for the term ending November
14, 2024, to assist in recommending new members for appointment. On October 6, 2023, the
Nominating Committee recommended the following members for appointment to ensure the
continued functioning of the Committee of Adjustment, Heritage Kitchener Committee, and Arts
and Culture Advisory Committee:

On September 15, 2023, the Centre in the Square Board provided a reappointment letter,
recommending that the City of Kitchener Council reappoint the following members for their
second three-year term effective January 1, 2024, and ending on December 31, 2026:
