SUBJECT: Update on Phase 1 of the Kitchener Utilities Clean Energy Transition
Strategy
RECOMMENDATION:
For discussion.
REPORT HIGHLIGHTS:
The purpose of this report is to provide an update on Phase 1 of the Kitchener Utilities Clean
Energy Transition Strategy, which has included engagement with customers, community
members, committees, stakeholders, staff, and Council.
A report to Council including a summary of engagement and key principles and evaluation
criteria to inform future project phases will be coming forward in the near-term, and staff
wish to discuss the results with this Committee prior to that date.
This report supports Cultivating a Green City Together: Focuses a sustainable path to
a greener, healthier city; enhancing & protecting parks & natural environment while
transitioning to a low-carbon future; supporting businesses & residents to make
climate-positive choices.
BACKGROUND:
Staff would like to review, through a presentation, the initial findings of Phase 1 of the project,
and discuss with the Committee prior to the information going to Council.
REPORT:
Items that staff would like to discuss with the Committee include the results of the Phase 1
engagement, as well as the guiding principles for and potential evaluation criteria that have been
developed for future project phases.
