Commencement The meeting began with a Land Acknowledgement given by the Chair Pro Tem, M. Garner at 4:07pm. 2. Discussion Items 2.1 Bird Friendly Cities - Dr. Jennifer Clary-Lemon Dr. Jennifer Clary-Lemon led a presentation on Bird-Friendly Cities. Topics covered were: the importance of saving birds, drivers of population decline and Ontario's at-risk species. Also reviewed were the criteria for what makes a Bird- 1 Friendly City, the total number of Bird-Friendly Cities in Canada and the necessary steps to achieve the certification and the scoring matrix. J. Shea, Manager of Forestry Forestry and Natural Areas Management and B. Steiner Senior Environmental Planner offered insight on how certifications like this can be implemented using Kitchener's Bee City designation as a model. AM. Cipriani offered clarity on next steps. On motion by J. Clary- Lemon, it was resolved: That the Climate Change and Environment committee support bringing the exploration of Kitchener becoming a Bird City to council. Carried 2.2 2023- 2026 Strategic Plan: Advisory Committees AM. Cipriani led the committee through dialogue and an exercise with the goal of identifying which of the committee's strategic actions from the workplan align with the City's 2023-2026 Strategic Plan. The completed document of the Strategic Plan actions will be provided to Compass Kitchener by January 31st. 2.3 CorCAP 2.0 DSD-2024-024 - Anna Marie Cipriani, Corporate Sustainability Officer 2.3.1 CorCAP 2.0 Update Presentation AM. Cipriani provided a presentation of the updates related to the CorCAP 2.0 which included the following topics: Climate Change 101 Local climate changes Governance orientation CorCAP 2.0 TOR recap Corporate GHG inventory Emerging corporate priorities Prompted by 3 questions, the committee held discussion on the opportunities to support this work leading up to the report going to the April Council meeting and through to implementation. 2 On motion by K. Bockasten, it was resolved: That the committee support the City of Kitchener corporate net-0 by mid- century target and incorporate periodic updates to the Climate Change and Environment Committee. 2.4 2024 CCEC Meeting Format On motion by K. Bockasten, it was resolved: That the 2024 CCEC meeting format schedule will be discussed at the February 2024 CCEC meeting and that the meeting be in-person. Carried 2.5 Sub-Committee Updates No sub-committee updates were provided. 3. Information Items 3.1 KU Energy Transition Strategy Council Report 4.
