SAFE CITY COMMITTEE MINUTES
JUNE 3, 1997
The Safe City Committee held its meeting under the Chairmanship of Trudy Beaulne with
the following members present:: Councillor Mark Yantzi, Nancy Brawley, Alan Richardson,
Rita Westbrook and Jackie Marsh.
Others Present:Brock Stanley, Julie Dean, Bob Arnot and Avril Tanner
(minutes).
Absent:Philip Fernandez, Lirondel Hazlneh, Bryan Stortz and Karen
Taylor Harrison.

1. APPROVAL OF JUNE 3, 1997 AGENDA.
It was decided to approve the Agenda dated June 3, 1997 with the following two additions
under Other Business:
Letter of Congratulations to Karen Redman
Membership Review

2.APPROVAL OF MAY 6, 1997 MINUTES
It was moved to approve the May 6, 1997 Minutes with the following changes being noted:
Item #2 under Other Business, first sentence should read as follows: “Councillor Karen
Redman indicated that as requested she had forwarded a letter to Superintendant
Cunningham of the Waterloo Regional Police, Division #1 requesting some Crime
Statistics.”

Item # 2 under Other Business, 3 Paragraph should read as follows: “Karen indicated that
Superintendant Cunningham had mentioned that the following information can be
given:”

Item #3 under the Working Group Reports, 2 Paragraph, the following sentence should be
added: “Trudy mentioned she would bring this up at the next Regional Crime
Prevention Council Meeting.”

OTHER BUSINESS
1.DISCUSSION ON CRIME STATISTICS

Julie Dean indicated that she had agreed to outline a couple of reasons for the original
request for the crime statistics for today’s meeting and handed out a document entitled
“Crime Statistics”. (See attached). Rita Westbrook indicated that she would forward this
document to Superintendant Cunningham.
After some discussion it was pointed out that there is a program available in the GIS
System that would allow us to disguise any sensitive number, if we were able to receive this
information in data format.
Trudy gave some additional reasons for her original request for the Crime Statistics to Julie
to incorporate in the the document that was handed out.
