HomeMy WebLinkAboutCouncil - 2005-02-07 SSPECIAL COUNCIL MINUTES FEBRUARY 7, 2005 CITY OF KITCHENER A special meeting of City Council was held at 4:41 p.m. this date, Chaired by Mayor C. Zehr and with all members present except Councillors B. Vrbanovic and J. Gazzola. Notice of this special meeting had been previously given to all members of Council by the City Clerk pursuant to Chapter 25 (Council Procedure) of the Municipal Code. Council considered a recommendation arising from the Community Services Committee meeting held this date regarding the replacement of the elevator at the Mayfair Hotel. Moved by Councillor G. Lorentz Seconded by Councillor M. Galloway "That an expenditure of $312,000. from the Economic Development Investment Fund to replace the existing elevator at the Mayfair Hotel with a new elevator utilizing the existing elevator shaft at 158 King Street West, be deferred and referred to the February 14, 2005 Council meetinq, to allow additional information to be provided concerning financing options; future use of the building; analysis of operating / maintenance costs and revenue generation; and, issues related to safety." Carried. Council was in receipt of Strategic Services Department report SSD-05-008 (R. Browning), dated February 4, 2005 regarding an agreement with Wilfrid Laurier University with respect to the redevelopment of the St. Jerome's property. Moved by Councillor J. Smola Seconded by Councillor M. Galloway "That the Mayor and the Clerk be authorized to sign an agreement with Wilfrid Laurier University, satisfactory to the City Solicitor, outlining the conditions under which the City shall contribute $6.5M to Wilfrid Laurier University, for the redevelopment of the St. Jerome's property for the purposes of establishing a Kitchener campus." Carried. Moved by Councillor C. Weylie Seconded by Councillor M. Galloway "That an in-camera meeting of City Council be held immediately following this special meeting to consider a land acquisition / disposition matter and three matters subject to solicitor-client privilege." Carried. Moved by Councillor G. Lorentz Seconded by Councillor J. Smola "That leave be given the Mover and Seconder to introduce a by-law to confirm all actions and proceedings of the Council and that the same be taken as read a first, second and third times, be finally passed and numbered 2005-21 by the Clerk." Carried. On motion, the meeting adjourned at 4:43 p.m. MAYOR CLERK
