1. GUESTS
1.1 Stephanie Massel, Supervisor of the Farmer's Market
· The Market portion only will open to the public on May 22 and will be open Saturday year-
round and Wednesdays during the summer. Market shops will open on September 4 and will
operate six days per week. Staff is busy recruiting vendors, who will be issued building
permits enabling them to start construction on their stands, etc.
· Stephanie received the letter sent by Robert Gissing for ACAC regarding art in the new Market
(see Item 4.1 from the March ACAC minutes). Stephanie noted that there is not much
available space on floors or walls at the Market for art displays, but once the Market is up and
running, the space issue will be assessed. ACAC will be consulted regarding development of
an art process and policy.
· Functional pieces could be considered such as furniture, railings, stained glass, etc., and
there is a certain amount of "air" space as the building is 5 stories high.
· Stephanie believes that there will be no space for the Michael Ambedian sculpture. Virginia
suggested that the piece be kept in mind once the building is open.
· It was suggested that ACAC members tour the building as a group - Erina to arrange.
· Although the tone of the Market is urban, multicultural in nature, staff was encouraged to
take into account the history of the Market and of Kitchener when considering arts/artifacts
for the building.
ACTION:
Erina, in consultation with Stephanie, will set a time/day for ACAC members to tour
the Market & will advise the group once decided.
Stephanie was thanked and left the meeting.
