Environics Project A working team including Don Bourgeois, Carla Ladd, Shelley Adams, Rosemary Pitfield and Barb Wagner met with Barry Watson in January to discuss the process for the Environics survey. The survey will cover 5 main areas including how respondents perceive their life in general in Kitchener, measurement of services which highlight if the respondent is familiar with the identified service, if they are satisfied with the service and if more or less money should be allocated to the service. The next section will help identify the vision residents have for the City in 20 or more years. The fourth section is social values items, some of which are intentionally provocative - the questions need to be posed pointedly to get the appropriate reaction. A communication piece will be prepared for Council and frontline staff to provide information in the event they receive any calls relating to the social values questions. The survey will be a mailout, with 8,000 surveys ensuring a response rate of approximately 2,000. There will be a communications and media drive to encourage participation. The selected participants will receive a personal letter prior to the process to advise they have been selected, the purpose of the survey and our expected outcomes that social values will help the City make better decisions on behalf of the residents. There was a discussion regarding who the letter should be from. S. Adams will check with Environics to determine best practice and report back at the February 16, 2005 meeting. The survey will also be available on the Internet with a PIN #.
