Some pages were deleted and the order reshuffled. This will be sent to Environics who will be presenting the survey material to council. There will be 2 or 3 slides added on to the end of the presentation that show the process that Compass Kitchener will use to take this information to the public. This includes: 1. Confirming Compass Kitchener’s mandate 2. Using a phased approach to build community awareness 3. Highlighting growth management strategy, Kitchener’s role within the region and so on. There was discussion on the danger of focusing on one or two values, as values may change as people go through live stages. The survey data gives us the ability to understand and communicate with our community and allows us to engage them as well as find the best ways of speaking to their needs. Language can build barriers or break barriers and this information allows us to break barriers. Another point to keep in mind is that a community has different age groups. While the older age group may not be comfortable spending money on major projects, we have to remember that we are investing for the younger community members. The youth are our future. What came through on this discussion is that we cannot please everyone. It is up to the politicians to find the balance to support the community. As a city we need to articulate our anchor values while acknowledging that groups shift as people move through life stages. 1.
