COMPASS KITCHENER COMMITTEE MINUTES

The Compass Kitchener Committee met on this date, commencing at 4:05 p.m.
Present: Don Bourgeois, Glen Woolner, Trudy Beaulne, Pat Doherty, John Hall, Tamara
McBride, Philip Awere-Gambrah
Staff: Michael May, Shelley Adams, Tracev DeVille, Glynis Martin
Regrets: Douglas Parker, Paul Royston
1. Introduction
Don welcomed two new members to the Committee, Tamara McBride and Philip Awere-Gambrah
and explained the citizen engagement process:

Understanding the values of City of Kitchener

Who are you Kitchener process to start to do indepth work to identify Kitchener’s vision and
where the city should be 20 years from now
?
Who are you Kitchener campaign
2. Citizen engagement process – sign up sheet
Michael asked committee members to sign up to participate in the extensive public consultation
for January. Tracey will coordinate the sign up by members, staff and volunteers.

Advertise in Volunteer Action Centre

Use high school students who want to fill their community hours

City staff and council

Neighbourhood associations

There will be a script

January 4 meeting will be a practice session
3. Citizen engagement process – communication and marketing materials
Michael showed the members:

Posters to get people curious so they will visit the website as well as to inform the public

A question was asked if this material could be misrepresented by media
?
It is possible, though there will be articles in the Your Kitchener newsletter on some of the
more sensitive topics

Committee members were given a copy of the workbook and asked to gave comments
given back to Michael by Friday, noon
?
The literacy levels needed for the workbook leaves out some people; this will be addressed
by having informal tables talks which Shelly, Michael and Trudy will set up
?
How else can we engage the public?
