APPROVAL OF MINUTES AND REVIEW OF AGENDA Peter Hinchcliffe was absent from the April 11, 2006 and requested clarification on three separate matters involving the Minutes. He inquired whether or not ACAC had received the consultant's report regarding the steam engine, "Hazel". He was advised that the report has not been circulated as of yet. He also wanted updating on the KOR situation. He was advised that at this time, the board has shut down operations and is no longer functioning and has been put on the City of Kitchener's list of uncollectible funds. Peter also informed the Committee that he had received a call from a Mr. Louis Forgett regarding 5 or 6 large sculptures that had been donated to KOR Studio and Gallery. Mr. Forgett would like them returned to him. Staff has had no information on the sculptures, but is trying to trace their location. Martin De Groot also noted that the sculptures are not the City's responsibility as we are not acting as an agent. Another question that was posed to the committee was in regard to obtaining more space in the Leisure Magazine. It was suggested we consider changing the layout. Cheryl York suggested that Colleen Allan would be able to speak to this in more detail at the next meeting. A motion was made by Jamie Hill and seconded by Martin De Groot to approve the minutes of the April Meeting. All were in favour; carried. 3. BUSINESS ARISING Update re Chilean Exchange Program -Cheryl It was stated that a letter of welcome will be prepared by the Mayor's office and mailed to the Director of the Music Academy in Chile. \April 2006 -ACAC Minutes Arts and Culture Advisory Committee Tuesday Mav 9, 2006 - 4:00 p.m. 4. NEW BUSINESS Peter Hinchcliffe added the Citizens Forum -Centre Block/Library to the Agenda. Peter read a "broadcast" letter asking for an ACAC representative for the citizens' panel. Representation on panel will occur through a balloting process. Twelve people will be selected form the community at large. There will be 9 representatives from stated sectors. Nominees will be drawn next Monday at 5:00 p.m. Panelists are required to attend the forums on: May 23 at 6:30 p.m. -General Information Session May 30 at 5:00 p.m. -Facilitated discussion to produce a citizens' recommendation to Council. Staff will get contact information for Len Carter for Peter. Contact Peter after CP II Team meeting if there are any nominee candidates from CPII Teams. 5. REPORTS 5.1 PAWG Report -Cheryl • Groundbreaking Ceremony was held at Victoria Hills Community Centre • Kevin Schmalz sent letter stating that he has put this project aside for the time being • PAWG Chairperson Sandra Martin handed in her resignation, therefore a replacement needs to be elected. 5.2 DAC Report • No meeting as there was no chairperson 5.3 CDC Report -Ron Ron Green was absent 5.4 Arts Council Report -Martin Martin attended an the Arts Council forum in London Ontario. He reported that 4 Churches in Civic Centre area have a major study going on looking at social and cultural issues. 8 or 9 visual arts alliance representatives have been meeting to look at a Trillium worthy proposal regarding capacity-building and /or other issues. Relationship building between groups is important as is resource sharing, etc. Suggested public be involved. Action still to be decided. 5.5 Staff Reports • Introduction of Tammy Foster, the administrative assistant hired during Erina Harris's absence \April 2006 -ACAC Minutes Arts and Culture Advisory Committee Tuesday May 9, 2006 - 4:00 p.m. 5.5.1 Arts Update • Peter inquired whether or not the Artscape Contract had been signed • Cheryl advised that yes it had been • Will be supplying the Culture II Plan contacts. A workshop is planned in about 8 weeks time • The study should be completed by the end of August 6.0 OTHER N/A 7.0 ADJOURNMENT/NEXT MEETING The next ACAC meeting will take place on June 13, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. in the Schmalz Room at Kitchener City Hall. \April 2006 -ACAC Minutes
