ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE
CENTRE BLOCK RECOMMENDATION
RECOMMENDATION:
The Economic Development Advisory Committee supports the KPLICentre Block Project
Committee in their current approach to the development of the Centre Block site and
recommends that they move ahead with the RFP including a new Main Library.
REPORT:
On February 22nd, EDAC was given an overview of the status of the Centre Block project. The
Committee engaged in a wide ranging debate in which committee members expressed opinions
as divergent as "the City should divorce itself from the current project and begin again with the
Library as a separate project" to "the current structure of the project is only way to get the
results the City is looking for within the budget that is available". The Committee was in
consensus on the importance of the library as part of the Centre Block project.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
A financial package is being presented to Council by the Centre Block Steering Committee on
March 20, 2006.
