2006-07 GOLF PROFESSIONAL CONTRACT
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign an agreement, satisfactory to the City
Solicitor, with Michael Martz regarding the provision of golf professional services and
other related matters for both City of Kitchener golf courses as set out in CSD-06-025.
BACKGROUND:
Each year staff of the City of Kitchener golf courses negotiate a contract with the golf
professional. Last year Council suggested that a multi year contract be considered. Attached to
this report is a draft two year contract between the City of Kitchener and the CPGA golf
professional, Mr. Michael Martz. Mr. Martz is responsible for pro shop staffing and services at
both municipal golf courses.
REPORT:
Since 1996, Mr. Martz has provided a valued service to the City of Kitchener, while delivering
great customer service to patrons at both Rockway and Doon Valley golf courses. It is
recommended that the contract be renewed. The only changes this year are a two year
contract term and the financial implications listed below.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
In the past, there has been an economic increase of 2% in staff wages each year. A 2%
increase in 2006 and 2007 is recommended. This will increase the value of the contract by
$2,450.60 and in 2007 by $2,499.61. This increase falls within the budget for 2006 and is
expected to be close to inflation for 2007.
