BACKGROUND: The Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church, at 700 Fischer-Hallman is planning to hold their annual Serbian Community festival on Saturday July 29, 2006. This event may attract as many as 1,000 people and will involve live music being played between the hours of 2 PM and 9 PM. Attached is a copy of their request. REPORT: This event is held on an annual basis and a noise exemption has been submitted and approved over the past several years. The By-law Enforcement Division advises that several noise complaints have been received from the neighbouring residential area when this event has been held previously. The music is played within the building itself, however there is the potential for the noise to impact the surrounding area when doors to the building are left open. Staff have had discussions with representatives from the Church with regard to actions that can be undertaken to limit any impact on the surrounding area. It has also been suggested to the Church that they undertake to communicate with the adjacent residential areas informing them that the festival will take place, and that the noise will cease at 9 PM. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: None identified at this time. COMMUNICATIONS: No Corporate Communications required. CONCLUSION: The By-law Enforcement Division advises that they have received noise complaints relating to this event in previous years. Discussions have taken place with regard to how to lessen the impact on the residential area and it has been suggested to the Church that they inform the adjacent residential area of the event.
