HomeMy WebLinkAboutCRPS-06-137 - Exemption to Chapter 450 (Noise) - Habitat For Humanityl K KR Corporate Services REPORT Report To: Mayor Carl Zehr and Members of Council Date of Meeting: September 11, 2006 Submitted By: Troy Speck, General Manager of Corporate Services Prepared By: Shayne Turner, Director of By-law Enforcement Wards} Involved: West-Victoria Park Date of Report: September 6, 2006 Report No.: CRPS-06-137 Subject: EXEMPTION TO CHAPTER 450 (NOISE) -HABITAT FOR HUMANITY RECOMMENDATION: That an exemption to Chapter 450 (Noise} of the City of Kitchener Municipal Code be granted to Habitat for Humanity for their Faith and Action Prayer Vigil to be held on Sunday September 17, 2006, between the hours of 7 P.M. and 11:30 P.M., at 170 Cherry Street. BACKGROUND: Habitat for Humanity is planning to hold a Faith and Action Prayer Vigil on Sunday September 17, 2006, between the hours of 7 P.M. and 11:30 P.M., at their building site location at 170 Cherry Street. This vigil will include some singing with and without piano accompaniment. In short, there will be some noise generated that is not normally heard at this location. As such, Habitat for Humanity has applied for an exemption from Chapter 450 (Noise). A copy of their exemption request is attached. REPORT: The group is anticipating 2 sessions throughout the evening, with the first involving singing and some music while the other, later in the night will involve only singing. Habitat for Humanity will be notifying the area residents of the upcoming event. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: None identified at this time. COMMUNICATIONS: No Corporate Communications required. CONCLUSION: Based on the circumstances surrounding this event, the By-law Enforcement Division does not object to this request for an exemption. Shayne Turner Director of By-law Enforcement Encl.
