GENERAL PROVISION GRANT REQUEST - CANADIAN
FEDERATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN, KITCHENER-
WATERLOO
RECOMMENDATION:
That a general provision grant in the amount of $5,000 be approved to the Canadian
Federation of University Women, Kitchener-Waterloo, to assist with expenses related to
publishing and promoting the book "Proudly She Marched: Training World War II Women
in Waterloo County".
REPORT:
The Community Services Department has received a grant application from the Canadian
Federation of University Women of K-W for a contribution of $5,000 towards the costs of
publishing and promoting the book "Proudly She Marched: Training World War II Women in
Waterloo County".
This historical project is intended to be completed and launched in November 2006. The book
will feature a historical introduction along with separate histories of the two training centres
located in Waterloo County, "interweaving the progress of the war with the ongoing theme of
women's developing roles and lively anecdotes from day-to-day life at the camps". The 300-
page book will be devoted to the history of the training facilities located in Kitchener (East
Avenue) and Galt, and will contain many pictures of both facilities and of Kitchener in the war
years.
The proposed budget for the project is $55,175, with revenues estimated as follows:
